Last thought. If Durant had a religious angle I could see it. It makes him more interesting. Few are neutral on Tebow. Just have to have something to build the fanbase. The NFL did it by parity and broadcasting every game. I just don't see how you build around Durant. What makes an average person take a side on him? If you're not a basketball fan do you go out of your way to make sure your kids watch him play or get a jersey? Here is a nice guy, good basketball player, please feel sorry for our league?

Just check out the dress code the league enforced a few years ago. It was all about taking some of the "thug" image many people (white) associate with the league.

Also, I think it works better for the league for the secondary pitchmen to be the good guys. More people get involved to root against the bad guy. That is how you reach the majority IMO. People are never going to flock to something everyone likes. Its against human nature. Look at how many people hate Peyton Manning, and as far as I can remember I don't think he's ever done anything too bad that has become public.

True. It is about selling the NBA. If I wasn't concerned about image it'd be Lebron and Kobe all the way. Easy. I think I could sell it just as well with Durant.

I don't follow what you are asking. You quoted my DRose post and my Kobe post. I was saying neither Kobe nor DRose would work if that is the question you are asking.

Imagine if Dirk was American. He'd be the "Great White Hope" and plastered on every billboard, commercial, etc.

Okay.....Kevin Durant is starting to grow on me. I do still think he is a modern day Tracy McGrady(with more upside) and can say that I do like him now as opposed to hating him like I have been. I cannot say I hate him anymore.
