November 22, 201114 yr Not that I am thinking about doing this soon, but maybe within a year. How do you all suggest asking the father's permission before asking the lady to marry you?
November 22, 201114 yr I think there is one option. You go to the man's house (his turf) and sit down with him and his wife and let them know of your intentions. Even if he says "no" he'll respect you for showing up and asking.
November 22, 201114 yr This is something I was wondering about 14 months ago...never had to get to that point haha! I'd say take him out to dinner, I'd included mama too if they are still together.
November 22, 201114 yr Shoot him a text.Nice... I didn't ask before I proposed and I don't expect a boy to ask me for my daughter.

My reasoning for doing it at their house is that you do not want them to be put in an awkward situation being out in public. I think it needs to be a private matter.
November 22, 201114 yr Author I figured the lunch or dinner thing. I just feel like it would be awkward to call him and say "Do you want to go to lunch or dinner? Just me and you."
November 22, 201114 yr Nice... I didn't ask before I proposed and I don't expect a boy to ask me for my daughter. But I assume you would appreciate the fact that he would.

November 22, 201114 yr I asked, it was anything special and of course he said yes. No need to take him out to lunch of dinner IMO.

True, but to play along. If a young man ask you and your wife out to lunch or dinner and your daughter wasn't included, I'd think you know what the meaning was for. I was really sweating this a while back, wondering what was the best route to take. I think it all depends on the relationship between the future the two men.
