Its ok FTBB, there is nothing wrong with any team being optimistic or people suggesting that the Birds will give up 3 tds. I dont really care if they give up 10 tds just as long as LC gives up 11 tds to the Birds

Also nothing wrong with playing the "no respect" card. Seems to always get the Highlands kids a little more fired up even if their own challenge them from time to time. Keeps them fresh imo.:thumb:

 

I believe that last years key word was "mediocre ". We all saw how that mediocre team turned out ! :thumb:

I guess I just like the defensive side of the ball too. I understand the panache and excitement of offense but I read on the back of a ratty ole tee an upperclassman had on when I was in 8th grade and it just said "defense wins!". I truly believe that. I'm not trying to start an argument or get our boys upset, just merely stating the facts, along with my opinion.

If I'm Dale , the first thing that I ask the refs " What is your (refs) definition of a chop block ? This call has been called a lot on Highlands , and had a bearing on some big plays that were called back !

NDIANAPOLIS, IN (February 14, 2011) — A change in the definition of a chop block in high school football, along with a strong emphasis on proper use of the helmet to minimize risk of injury, highlighted the January 21-23 meeting of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Football Rules Committee in Indianapolis.

 

The modification of the chop block rule was one of 11 rules changes recommended by the Football Rules Committee and approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

 

The new language in Rule 2-3-8 defines a chop block as “a combination block by two or more teammates against an opponent other than the runner, with or without delay, where one of the blocks is low (at the knee or below) and one of the blocks is high (above the knee).”

 

Previous language defined a chop block as “a delayed block at the knees or below against an opponent who is in contact with a teammate of the blocker in the free-blocking zone.”

 

 

It should be any blocking that is a combination of above and below the knee even while the FBZ is intact. It got called on both Boyle and LexCath last week. LexCath rarely gets hit with that call so I looked at the replay it was supposed to be a double team where the formation slide away from the second blocker and he lunged out to try to complete his assignment. His initial contact was at or below the knee - and it was called. The other thing that seems common is when some linemen are on their knees or down and start rolling while other linemen are still up and engaged. And the 3rd common item is when linemen 'cut block' an LB who is standing. While not a chop block, cut blocks are only legal against set linemen who are in the FBZ at the start of the play.

 

It is no wonder this is not called consistently.

But here is an explanation of why cut blocking Linebacker - even blitzing linebackers - is usually illegal.

With kids that both linemen and LBs I have gotten to know the chop, cut, FBZ rules pretty good. But it is a struggle.

Last minute decision - nky_harry and family are headed south to see, hopefully, another 'Birds win. GO BIRDS!!!
