It was an exciting season to say the least for the Camels! As for someone who bleeds purple, I'm looking forward to how Coach Lickert will continue to build the Campbell program. I'm not a football technician, so I'm not going to even try to comment on the subtle nuances of calling one play versus another, or one form of offense/defense versus another another throughout the season. But I can tell you that Coach Lickert is a leader. It took some time but the players began trusting him and woe to the parent or fan who said a word against Coach by mid season! Congrats Coach and again, Welcome to Campbell County!

For the record, if you think you're a high school football fan and you stayed home to watch UK against a terrible Marist you're NOT a high school football fan. DVR the game and support your community!

There was a nice crowd last week but this week there were empty seats everywhere. I don't know what the problem was, the cold, someone mentioned a play, UK's home opener. Whatever it was it is sad IMO but typically there is a healthy amount of support.

Oh, did the Camels have a game last night? You couldn't have known by looking around the community. No "good luck Camels" signs anywhere. No "all call" from school to talk about the game. There wasn't even a mention of it on the marquee in front of CCMS. Part of the success of a good football program is the support of the parents and community. I hope Coach Lickert is successful in getting everyone to drink the purple kool-aid. He certainly has his work cut out for him.

A few years back when the Camels were in the playoffs, a group of parents went up & down US 27 and asked local businesses to support the Team with a Good Luck message. The majority of businesses were supportive. One gift shop said, "If we put a message for the Camels on our sign, it will make the Brossart people mad". Needless to say, that gift shop went out of business (i'm certain due in part to that type of attitude). BTW, it was located directly across the street from the CC Middle School.

 

I do have to give some props to the All-Seasons Car Wash on US #27 (across from the Speedway). That business supported the Camels all season long with good luck messages. I remember that before their first win against Simon Kenton, the car wash sign read "CC vs. SK"....Find A Way (and they did).

I do not understand why a community the size of Alexandria, cannot support BOTH schools! When CCS did well on the test scores to get them in the top 10% in the state (I think it was the top 10%) almost every business along 27 had something about it. I will be the first to admit, I am not a fan of Brossart but it would be nice to see businesses support both.

Campbells marquee win was Ryle, no doubt. They went 4-8 and 4-3 after their awful start, winning the district and earning a first round bye. But how can people say great season. What did they do that was great? Good luck in the future....but expect a more competitive district next season.

I would hate to think that Alexandria businesses would hesitate to give credit where due to either school in fear of slighting another, if indeed the congratulatory message is for a matter of community pride or support.

I've lived in this community all of my life and have never once felt slighted because the Camels were being congratulated for a major accomplishment or being wished good luck in an upcoming major event.

When we went to the basketball State Tournament in 2000 signs up and down US27 wished us well, and the same signs a year later wished the Camels well when they won the 10th and went to State.

While we can be bitter rivals on the hardwood or the field of play, we are all friends and neighbors for the most part.

Rob Lohr, owns Classic Printing and Graphics and is located directly across from CCMS. He is a NewCath guy, BUT always recognizes community accomplishments on his sign. I've never ever felt the slightest urge to complain about what he posts on his sign and normally am in total support or agreement with it.

 

I think (hope) someone is micro-analyzing how we actually feel about each other here.

I agree. I don't think is's a Brossart/CCHS problem in A-town. There are many families in Alexandria that have kids going to both schools. I have a Camel, a Bred and a future Mustang in my house so you can imagine the atmosphere here. Thankfully, they all don't play the same sports. I was directing my comments at the CCHS football parents and CCHS Athletic Dept. The car wash on 27, as I've said previously, does an excellent job tooting CC's horn as do other businesses like Rob's.

If only people could see how much time is put in by the parents in Ft. Thomas to make football the success that it is, you would be amazed. Love them or hate them, they have a system that's so precise, it is documented in a huge binder that insures that doors get decorated every week, signs are hung around the town, etc. Drive up Memorial Parkway during playoffs and you'll see the cups in the fence spelling out messages of good luck. As Dale would say, "it's awesome!" You look at the teams that are winning year after year, like T, CovCath, Beechwood, NCC - they all have strong community support.

Spot on LA!! Drive through Ft. Thomas or Ft. Mitchell and it won't take you long to realize it's playoff time. Shocked that the game wasn't sold out however--This seemed like an easy team to support; even for the casual fan? As someone said earlier, its not like 2nd round playoff games are common out in Alexandria. Hopefully the fans will show up in better numbers next year, as Coach Lickert is off to a great start and has returned enthusiasm for football to Claryville. Chin up as the "Crosstown" is just around the corner, and it WILL be sold out!!
