I went to a Cov Cath game, and their "Student Body Fan Club" was unbelievable, they're kind of like the Sixth man, its really great and more schools should have the same school pride. But there is no way there should be profanity or anything distasteful going on at these games. The administation from each school needs to warn the student body, That they could suffer punishment after all these games.

Are you a member of one of the student sections in question? If so, can you explain why kids quit going to games if they're not allowed to cross the line?

 

I think it's interesting to note that the players on the floor get yelled at by their coaches all the time. I can only imagine what some of the locker room conversations at half time and after a loss are like these days. But, the players don't quit. They figure things out and come back stronger.

 

Instead of being quitters, maybe some of the students should take a lesson from their mates who are doing the hard work on the floor. Don't quit! Figure it out and get better!

 

Our community needs our student bodies to step up to the next level. Basketball games in the winter are a great value for the entertainment dollar. School Spirit is a big part of why it's great. Come on students, get it together and join the fun!

Nobody seems to be complaining about CovCath and their student body always has plenty to say. As a matter of fact, many comments are complimentary about the enthusiasm and vigor that the colonel student section shows.

 

I think that what people are complaining about are things that go way over the line. At a recent Lloyd vs. Dixie game the Lloyd student body were chanting a number of things that could not be posted here.

 

Maybe Lloyd should pay a little more attention to the behavior of their student body and a little less time trying to eliminate the private school competition.

Isn't calling Highlands students and fans "Cake Eaters" supposedly degrading a community based off of socioeconomics too?

 

IMO calling Highlands "cake eaters" Lloyd, Ludlow, and Dayton "River Rats" is the same thing as calling Simon Kenton "Hillbillies." This does not bother the students all it does is make them laugh. I believe they should all be acceptable to say at a high school basketball game.

My father graduated from Campbell County, he said everyone always called them "PlowPushers", he said when the team heard that they really got fired up and was ready to play. (They were "PlowPushers")

I'm not sure, but I would think that calling Dayton and Ludlow and those sort "River Rats" would be to offend someone, but if it shows no offense to the people of those towns.. how can you argue with that? But being a member of the CCH section for a number of years, it never affected our section when people chanted "soap on a rope" or "we have girls", we always took it and ran with it and started chanting it louder.

I think you would might be surprised at the number of people at Lloyd who are concerned.

 

I hope you are right because something needs to be done. At Ludlow that night I was not aware of any Lloyd administrators being there but their coaches so if they are concerned as you suggest they might want to start by attending the games.

A few of our fans have scouted out the CovCath student section, and about 85% of the things that the student section says are prohibited from being said by the Simon Kenton student section. Really, the restrictions set upon SK fans are ridiculous. There's just nothing else we can do, you can only chant defense so many times.

This seems to be the trend for most highschools. Cheers originally from CCH are filtering into other student sections.

Students need to get together and think of chants that are funny but don't cross that line. Sadly some students aren't willing to do this, they would rather just stop going to games. I know some restrictions on student sections are a little much but if students really want to go to games and have fun then they'll have to figure out a way to do it without breaking the rules. Though I do think poking fun at opponents sometimes can make the game much more fun.
