November 7, 201114 yr It will be interesting to see how the scheduling plays out since Missouri will begin play next summer in the SEC. I would imagine that the SEC will go to a 9 game schedule. If so, who gets dropped in the non-conference portion? Does anyone know how long the present UK-UL contract is set up for? With that being said, I think that the end is near for that series based on the SEC going to a 9 game schedule. Teams would be wise to buy 3 wins having to play 9 games in the SEC. The schedule makers will be having some fun.
November 7, 201114 yr I've heard/read speculation that the UK/UL game may cease. "Buy wins" are important to UK.
November 7, 201114 yr Pathetic. UK is afraid of U of L now. If you can't beat U of L you don't deserve a bowl as an SEC team.
November 7, 201114 yr I wouldn't doubt it at all if UK opts out of this. Their formula for success the last few years has been schedule as soft a nonconference schedule as we can and hope to go 2-6 or 3-5 in the SEC.
November 7, 201114 yr Author I wouldn't say it is so much as fearing UL, even though it will be portrayed as that. More than likely they are going to have a 9 game SEC slate, because I am sure TV will dictate that and with a move to the SEC Network imminent, they will need to be showcasing conference games. That means you will likely have 4 or 5 home games in the conference, depending on the year. They will have to find 3 non conference home games each year. With the UL series rotating, it makes it the obvious choice. People may point to the WKU series, and that is a terrible contract which I think is done in two years. Heck they may keep UL on the schedule but with expansion in full swing, these things are going to happen. UK has to look out for themselves and three gimmies is better than two and one iffy.
November 7, 201114 yr Pathetic. UK is afraid of U of L now. If you can't beat U of L you don't deserve a bowl as an SEC team. Easy to say from a fan's standpoint. Every team has "buy games." UL is not a "buy game."
November 7, 201114 yr I would imagine that as conferences continue to evolve and expand to 9 game conference schedules that UK will not be the only school taking this type of action.
November 7, 201114 yr Easy to say from a fan's standpoint. Every team has "buy games." UL is not a "buy game." Its pathetic from anyone's standpoint. It is pathetic when teams dodge a rival because the schedule is too hard in college football. If I can't beat my rival, who in U of L's case is not that good, then maybe I don't deserve 3 free wins. Whatever happened to having some pride?
November 7, 201114 yr Doesn't UK have Akron on the schedule for the next couple seasons? If so, I think one of those games will be in Akron.
November 7, 201114 yr Author They may very well stay at 8 games for the time being until the SEC schools can cycle out of their non-conference game contracts.
November 7, 201114 yr Kentucky might as well drop football if they're going to resort to that. They clearly don't belong in the SEC anyway, given the overwhelming lack of interest in football from the UK fans. That they spend nearly as much on Midnight Madness as they do on their whole football recruiting budget says all you need to know about UK football.

Interesting piece in LHL today in regards to how the UK Board of Trustees hogties the athletic department in spending.
