Not many, and the game being on ESPNU means the game is either third or fourth tier after ABC, ESPN and ESPN2. Before Rich Brooks whined about moving the UofL game and got his way, the UK-UofL game was regularly on ESPN or ESPN2. It's no surprise that both schools were doing a lot better in those days.

Another good point, so you agree the ESPNU game against UofL does very little for UK (win or Lose).
November 9, 201114 yr Hard time believing this, coming from someone who used to refer to UofL as an "elite" program.When I referred to them as Elite, they were. One play from playing for the title is quite Elite, IMO. That being said, things changed immediately after that. IFF Strong stays, which my gut says he will, this program, at worst, is going to be an annual Top 25 squad.

But now with 8 being the magic number for now, UK's schedule is actually easier now than it has been. They get to keep UL on the schedule and play one less West team.Wasn't it just a year or two ago, that the East was king. That momentum will swing back, IMO.

With regional coverages and in-flux of multiple ESPN outlets and network deals, there are no shortage of games shown on televisions getting to potential recruits. 10+ years ago maybe so.

November 9, 201114 yr I was surprised to see that UK athletics gives the university about $20M per year. I hate to keep following up on this stuff in the middle of this thread, but this is interesting to me. If I'm reading this right, Louisville's athletic department receives about $1.6 million each year in student fees and an additional $3 million in "institutional support," which I can only assume is the university giving money to the athletic department to cover more expenditures. Louisville Athletics Revenue On the other hand, UK receives no "institutional support" and only gets about $600k in student fees. (By the way, does anyone know if there is a dedicated athletic fee that falls under tuition at UK?) All this is impressive, but I'm not seeing this $20 million to the university. It would be nearly half of their entire athletic revenue. ESPNU is not on my basic cable package (Classic is, however), and from the way I understand it the channel is not a basic cable channel on most other systems as well. When you're talking about potential recruits seeing the channel, you're often talking about kids from poor or lower-middle class families, most of whom probably can't afford a $125 cable bill each month. And that still doesn't change the fact that ESPNU games are always third or fourth tier on the marquee, which means there are three better games (and that doesn't even count FoxSports, FX, CBS, NBC and other options). On its best day, a UK-UofL game on ESPNU doesn't reach 1/100th of that 72 million number. They're probably watching Tennessee v. Florida instead.

As has been noted before, when the game is played on Labor Day weekend, it usually has a premium spot without any real competition. But Rich Brooks didn't want that extra attention.

You're incapable of being impartial. Just because something doesn't agree with your point of view doesn't make it wrong. And don't accuse me of holding the bias either. I'm coming up with numbers and sources. You have personal anecdotes and documented anti-UK views. If we're sticking with personal experience, I've had cable from 3 different providers in 3 different states. I received ESPNU from all 3. Therefore everyone must get ESPNU.
