I don't want to disrespect Paris, I can certainly remember their championship years and when Raceland was first in their district in the mid 70's. Coach Homer Goins and "Homer's Hounds" had some classic battles with Raceland under coach Larry Heck. I just hate seeing what as happened to the Paris football program.

 

Having said that there is no doubt that Beechwood will name the score and this game and ones like it all over the state is why imo four teams from a district is too much. Two teams imo is the best way. That is jmo and that and a dollar will buy a cup of coffee at McDonads.

Not my material rather just what some of the BW faithful have been saying so I figured that had to be worth 60. Gotta admit some of you are bold to make such a statement, there have been some very talented teams come through those halls

Not sure who made that comment but I'm sure when anything that's said on this forum that in anyway can be twisted, you'll be there to twist and stir it all up. Guess there's nuttin' better to do in the ol' western part of that there state.

I quoted it to you word for word, so much so that it was a copy and paste from another thread by a regular BW fan and one who seems to be one of the most knowledgable on BGP. So what is your opinion? Is this the most talented group to ever play for BW?

Wow.....Now that is a statement considering all the State Championship teams they have had. I blieve they are verry good but seriously doubt this is their best ever.

I think this group when healthy is very talented. Some of them 90's teams were very talented as well. Hard to say which is the best ever. What about your last years team....was it the best ever?

No last year, in my opinion was not the best. Back in the day we were a bigger school and played better competition. I recall one of our better groups playing E St Louis, Nashville Brentwood and Memphis Douglas. I think we were better back then. One year we were ranked #1 in all classes in the final poll

They actually played EStl and Brentwood Academy in 1977 and Memphis Douglas in 1978. The 77 team lost the season opener to Brentwood and then reeled off 12 straight to win state including a 20-19 win over a nationally ranked Estl team and redeeming the loss to Corbin from the prior years state championship. The 78 team was the 1st undefeated Mayfield team and repeated as state champion that year and defeated Somerset in the finals.

:thumb: Absolutely, a few years ago Paris played at Raceland, had 13 kids and they played as hard as they could go the entire game, never quit. I respect that and the Paris kids that love the game of flootball.

I am not going to reveal my source yet until we get some input from some of the regulars like VOR and Crunch. Spartan weighed in but sorta avoided providing his opinion. The best opinion might be that of quickslick but he is keeping his opinions to himself these days so we might have to revisit this if BW wins the title. I think how you finish has alot to do with how fans view and remeber teams. Maybe this would be better served as it's own thread.
