To be questioning Chad Montgomery is joke! I mean come on he came into a bad situation and hes working hard and this team is light years ahead of last years! For a team like Dayton to lose three or four starters for alot of games and to still play tough says alot about Chad. He started study hall and its not always about wins or loses these kids are learning life leasons and I can say his first year coaching at Dayton he helped me alot with what college to attend and what to expect!

JW I agree I think he is a great guy and will teach these kids life lessons. However, do you think they are where they should be? Don't you think they are better than 1-8? I felt they should be a .500 team at least. Has study hall helped? Why did he even have to implement it? I just thought with the kids he has he would have been more successful. You are right they have been so banged up this year. It has been one thing after another. I have never seen a team have to go through 4 qb's in one year. I'm just frustrated and thought that coach would get it fixed quickly. I guess every coach does need time. I agree last year we were losing by almost 50 points a game. As I said for the most part you actually get to watch a game.

Rome wasnt built in a day Devils. Give him another year...typically it takes 2-3 yrs for a coach to build his own program. I am just glad it was a competetive game, sounds like it was a slugfest in the trenches.

I counted four of them all by same player. However that #22 is a workhorse. Yeah there were 4 personal fouls, but two of them were a joke. The other two were legitimate though.

 

4 personal fouls on the same player? Or 4 fumbles by the same player? If it was personal fouls, a player is suppose to be ejected from the game after just two. So I am assuming your talking about fumbles then?

Yeah. Dayton actually had 5 fumbles and four by same player. They also had 4 personal fouls, which were not all because of sportsmanship. One was a facemask and the other a helmet to helmet hit.

^ I agree with you JW. It is great to hear about the things Montgomery is doing beyond the football field. I can only speak to what I have seen on the field and Dayton is much, much improved this year. Montgomery has things going in the right direction. Losing to the rival is always tough but if I were a Dayton fan, I would still like what I am seeing in Dayton and have optimism about the coming years under Montgomery.

Okay, some say sloppy. i say hard hitting defenses and the weather conditions didnt help. I was at this game and it was the hardest hitting game I seen all year. A lot of turnovers due to helmets on the ball. Tough game. both teams play hard. Dayton in the right direction, thank goodness Deaton is gone!! Question is, how long before Bellevue changes coaches?

Congrats to the Tigers on this one but I do have to ask, Is Bellevue gotten worse as the year has gone on? The reason for this is they handled a very solid Walton team at the beginning of the year and it just seems they have not been the same team..

Bellevue injuries and Walton's offensive line returned no starters from the year before. The o-line has improved every week since that game.

Not saying Montgomery is a bad coach. I played under him when he was an assistant. I think he is a good coach. Just thought he was going to be good enough to pull off the Bracken, Ludlow, and especially Bellevue game. I know they're better than years past, but that is not saying much. The program has not been very good the last 10 years except for 2007. As far as giving him time I just don't see the program getting better. I mean their pee wee program has not won a game in years. They had to fold their senior team(jr high) this year because of a lack of participation. Knowing coach though, he'll do whatever it takes to make it better. Just don't know if it will get better. The first thing coach has to do is keep Dayton kids in Dayton. I heard the school system is in trouble too, which may make keeping kids even harder. Best of luck to the Greendevils and Coach. I'm pulling for you guys. I was just questioning if things would have been different if they gave the job to Coach Siple. He has taken a Bracken program and won more games in one year than they have in 1o years combined.

There have been a lot of things going on in the school, but from an article that I read and other things that could be happening in the future that I have heard from others, I believe the school has a good chance to make a lot of improvement. I know that state educational consultants have been assigned to the school and that many changes could be made in teaching, administration, and more. I don't know how true it is, but I heard from a pretty good source that Rye is retiring as the Superintendent after this year and that Ridder may come back to take the position, which I believe would be good if true. Whether or not the change in superintendents takes place is still to be seen, but regardless of what happens, if people from the state are being assigned to the school, I believe that big changes are on the way, which is probably a good thing.

This wasn't the best game in the 132 played between Bellevue and Dayton. However, it was a hard fought game despite the fumbles and penalties. It was good to see Dill kick a 27 yard field goal. She has gotten much better over the years.

 

From reading some of these posts, sounds like some of the Dayton faithful maybe turning against Montgomery.

I hope they are not turning on Montgomery already? He did not fumble 5 times this past weekend. As for changes to the admin, where is Ridder now? He is a good man and knows the school.

From what I have heard over the past couple of years on the streets in Bellevue is that Wayne Starnes has either 1-2 years left as Superintendent of Bellevue. Mr. Ridder (the assistant Superintendent) will likely be the replacement for Starnes. However, I know that there is an opportunity for Ridder to be the Superintendent in Dayton too. So, it will be a difficult decision for him to make if both of these rumors are true.

If people from Dayton are turning on Coach Montgomery already, it's pretty sad if you ask me. I would say that there are only few, most of the supporters have faith in him that I know of. I know that this has been talked about since before the season even started, but if people expected a complete turnaround with what has taken place over the past few seasons prior to this one, there was no way. The situation that Montgomery or any other coach would have walked in to was not going to be a quick fix and this season has shown it clearly. After speaking with others that used to be in the program over the season, I still believe that Coach Montgomery is good for Dayton. The biggest thing involves keeping the younger people at Dayton that has not reached high school. I spoke with Tom Brewer a few times as well and from what he said, he doesn't believe that there is much to worry about with the future plans of the school with changes that are likely coming, as well as with the developments to take place in the town itself over the next few years.

I think the only people turning on Montgomery is the fans that have no clue on what it takes to run a program! As far as Kevin Sipple goes I say have him lose three of his best players and play Daytons scheduele and then talk to me. As far as changes to the school with the state coming in I believe its mandatory when you do not improve on state test scores!
