Brent Slusher of Bell sure looks good. 6'4", 240, and still growing. Rumor has it, this kid has been getting letters from many of the top 25 teams in the nation, and has made several "unofficial" visits. Anyone have anymore TE's that could break out next year? Seems like this position is getting more and more use in the state.

Senior-to-Be Andrew Breeding from Mboro has to be considered, too. He's not as big as Slusher (6'2" 205#, also still growing), but he's carded a faster 40 (4.62) and has the best hands of any TE I've seen. I don't know if Mboro keeps Yards After Catch states - haven't seen 'em - but Breeding did average 33 yards per catch in 04 and 26 in 05 running mostly short routes.

 

Both Slusher and Breeding play for Offenses that use the TE more as a lineman than as a receiver. I did notice this year that both Bell and Mboro started running the Flex more often to take advantage of their TE's, and Mboro even ran Breeding at wideout some to take advantage of his speed outside, but by and large, they were both out there to block.

 

Both these kids are getting more College interest at LB than at TE, from what I've heard, but I have no inside info.

Several of Slusher's recruiters are looking at him as TE; however, some of them are looking at him as a versatile player that they could use as LB,TE, or DE.

 

According to the trainer's board in Middlesboro, Slusher's speed is getting better (I think he is below 4.7) and his vertical is increasing. He is at the top of all the trainer's boards.

Breeding is a good player and can not or will not out run Slusher, not in the same league as Slusher. Slusher has a 35 in. vert, 4.68 (40) 4.16 in the pro shuttle. I just said I thought Breeding had better hands, and may be a tad faster. You're correct that he's nowhere near Slusher's size or vertical, but he's a fine TE and should be considered one of the Senior TE's to watch next season, as well as Brent. I wish them both the best!

No, I talk to him pretty regular, and I don't think UK is even on his radar screen. I think so far he likes Notre Dame, Auburn, UT, Louisville, not necessarily in that order, but close enough.

I'm pretty sure he's been to UK and doubt he's ruled anyone out....it's still very early.

Slusher is no doubt D-1. Breeding is probably suited for Eastern or maybe Western or Georgetown.

To echo BFritz, if Pete Sutton is categorized as a TE then he will be one of the state's best next fall.

Chad Steele from Belfry deserves a quick mention. He is 6'3" and played at around 220lbs this past season. He will be starting his 3rd season at TE for the Pirates.

 

He hasn't shown a real playmaking ability in the passing game despite having pretty good speed, but he is as good as another tackle when it comes to blocking.

Josh Smith From Frankfort High School. 6'4 245lbs. Led the team in receptions last season. Also rushed for 200 yards this season doing spot duty at FB. Getting some looks from some D-1 schools.
