theguru Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 I like Beechwood at #1 now based on their games with Dixie and CCH, and watching Mayfield online...
Voice of Reason Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Agree, with some reservations about the bottom four. We will get a good picture of how true those rankings are this week. Some good 1A versus 1A matchups this week. I am interested in the Raceland vs. Nicholas County game. Debateable rankings on the line in that game, let alone the district implications. How good is Harlan? How good is Ky. Country Day? Answers come on Friday.
Crunch-time Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Agree "Perhaps" if BW beats NCC there may be a little more justification for swapping 1 & 2, but since we've stuck with the "#1 till they lose" phylosophy all season then may as well just let it play out.
UK fball fan Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I like Beechwood at #1 now based on their games with Dixie and CCH, and watching Mayfield online... I like Mayfield as #1 based on there games with Murray and Tilghman and watching Beechwood online...
LCDAWGS19 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I like them... for now. The winner tonight of Eminence (6-0) and Bracken County (5-1) definitely deserves consideration for next week, though.
snakesnot_2000 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 What did you see online about Mayfield Mr Guru that makes you think that ?

hrcarrier Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I'm having trouble between Beechwood and Mayfield. Even though the Tigers have a loss, it was to what has proven to be a very good team in Cov Cath, which they still played pretty good. As far as the Dixie game is concerned, Dixie is far worst than many expected to be, but Beechwood still made a good statement with how they beat them. Other than Mayfield not losing yet this season and winning state last season, they did put a pretty good beatdown on a good Paducah team. Regardless of which team is better, I believe that if the game happens between Beechwood and Mayfield, it should be a very good one.
UK fball fan Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 What did you see online about Beechwood Mr. UK fball fan that makes you think that? Bwood appears to be much improved from last year. A little bigger, a really good DE and the OL run blocks better than I've seen the past few years. With that said, I still think they lose the speed battle vs Mayfield. I still think the Cardinal line matches up pretty well and I think they'll struggle to pass the ball vs Mayfield and if they can't throw it, they will struggle to run it, which has been the case the past 2 years. I think Mayfield mixes it up offensively a little better and Mayfields defense is better. As good as Nussbaum and Vocke are, neither have had much past success against the Cardinals and I do expect they'll be more of a factor this year, but, I also think Mayfields defense is improved enough vs last year and 2009 that they'll still manage to contain them if not completely shut them down. I just don't see the Tigers keeping Mayfield from less than 3 scores for 4 qtrs, I really think 4 or 5, but, I'll say 3 minimum and I just don't see Mayfields D giving up any more than 3... If PTilghman is held to 7, then they should be able to hold the Tigers down.. I think Bwood is a fine team, but, I dont think they are near as athletic or fast or as capable of a big play as Tilghman is, and Mayfield pretty much shut them down all night. 75Center, I've thought the same thing all year long and even moreso after seeing the Tigers on TV. I was a little suspect about the Cards offense, but, Guhy has stepped up and been great and the OL has been a pleasent surprise. Jackson is an improved RB from last year and the defense has been stellar. With all that, I feel reletively confident that Mayfield is the #1 team. Doesn't mean Beechwood can't beat them because they are more than capable, but, I do think it'll take a huge, huge game by the Tigers, especially on the road and I've seen nothing earthshatteringly good by the Tigers or bad by the Cards that would make me change my mind..
bjaynes Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 What took the steam out of a nice opening BW drive last year? Yep, a fumble. The tone was set and they had to play catch up which meant putting the ball up in the air more than they probaly wanted to. Hold on to the ball!
snakesnot_2000 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Turnovers can make or break a game. If MF/BW play I suspect that turnovers will play a big role.
