Cats'Pause 8th Region Preview

Featured Replies

McNeil returns with Hargett (6'5") foward (return starter), Tanner Moeves guard (return starter), Daniel Helton (6'5') forward, Cole Moser (6'6") center....and if Kinmon can get eligible he will give depth to the guard position.

Much appreciated. Does WV have the overall height advantage in the 8th?

Jalen is a nice kid who is a pretty solid basketball player. He comes from a stable family that prioritizes athletics. He will probably help Walton.

But this is not a devastating blow to Grant County, they have enough guard play to overcome his departure. If he was a 6'6 post player then things may be different.

This is a huge blow to Grant County. Kinmon would have been without a doubt Grant's best guard and best player.

hummm Just wondering how WV gets all these players. It would be interesting to see how many of their team has been enrolled there since the Elememtary years.

There is no doubt that Walton’s academic ranking and small class size are attractive to both students and parents. To infer anything else is just silly.

Agreed. They have others that are good in various aspects of the game but none that are as well rounded as Jalen.

I'd say that Owen does. Williams 6'8", Williams (brother) 6'4", Shelton 6'5'....tall team.

You just keep thinking that! ..LOL!

So you are telling me that Grant Co-essentially the same team as last year minus Kinmon- has as high as a chance to beat WV-which is basically the same team as last year with Kinmon transferring- in the upcoming season?

I hope the Braves do good, but I just don't see the logic.

I think the 8th region is going to have an exciting year.

When you lose your main scoring threat, I don't know how it can't be a blow to the team.

Earlier there was some question as to the top players in the region. I think there are 20 players capable of being an all region type player this year in the 8th.

1. Rowan

I think there is a large pool of good players in the 8th. In no particular order.

1. Rowan NO

2. Levitch NO

3. Smith Oldham

4. Wesley Oldham

5. Sampson SK

6. Chambers SK

7. McNeil WV

8. Hargett WV

9. Kinmon WV

10. Williams Owen

11. Osborne owen

12. Gibson Carroll

13. Foree Eminence

14. Alexander Trimble

15. Morgan Gallatin

16. Davis Gallatin

17. Dunbar Spencer

18. Dez ? Collins. I liked a couple of players from Collins, but I don't remember their names.

I'm sure Anderson, Grant, Williamstown, South Oldham and Shelby have worthy players as well, but I can't think of any specific names.

 Yeah, I heard that Kinmon started at Walton this year and when he went back to Grant he just couldn't cope with the large class size and went back to Walton.

You seem to have a rare perspective on the issue. Please, enlighten us.

Obvious to most, my post was a response to the post below and had nothing to do with Kinmon.

"hummm Just wondering how WV gets all these players. It would be interesting to see how many of their team has been enrolled there since the Elememtary years."

I will say that not only did they lose Kinmon, but they lost Xavier Thomas, who played a ton last year and was a kid that the coaches were expecting to be a big part of the offense this year. They also lost Nathan Davis to Ryle which may not be a huge loss but he was one of their best defensive players last year and late in the year gave quality minutes and both of these guys were their best leapers and could play above the rim. The Braves will always be scrappy with coach Hicks and will fight in every game. The schedule should help their overall record this year and the district will be competitive but they do have alot of work this year to get to the top of the 8th region. Best of luck to Coach Hicks and the Braves. Also best of luck to Kinmon and his new school, Jalen is a good kid and comes from a basketball bloodline, he will be an assest to WV and help bring experience to the team.
