I remember while playing a Russell when we played Belfry how small their visitor's dressing room was (the current middle school now). About the size of my small kitchen...LOL. One of our coaches was blowing up on us at halftime and couldn't hardly turn around...LOL. You had to go outside to change your mind...LOL.

 

Of course that was almost 28 years ago. Their current facilities are tremendous.

Stadium of champions has nice visitor locker rooms as does Hopkins Central. Lone Oak is the worst.

:thumb: Walton Verona doesn't even have locker rooms! Our guys had to strip down to their underwear on the track after the game. It was absolutely freezing but they had no where else to go...That was while the WV players sat in their nice, new field house.

I was over in the home locker room and they weren't much better, CA. Belfry used to use the basketball locker rooms in the gym and they were cramped, the water was red and smelled like sulphur and the heat was either on full blast or not at all. I miss it though and wish I could go back and do it again.

Frankfort is the worst!

 

At least its close to the field, indoors, and not too bad! its dark and cramped but warm on a cold night!

same here! it was awful!

Beechwood's were pretty bad because #1...they were too far away fromt he field and #2 they were so small they weren't worth using.

 

But by far....They worst visiting locker room I have ever been is Frankfort's. Not only was their locker room terrible so was their field and facilities. The only good thing they had down there was there hamburgers at the concession stand.

Still the same, visitors dress there today against Harlan Co. which has its home games at the old Cawood field.

 

 

Johnson Central has really updated their place, it is 1 of the nicest now.

Dayton, you walk up old metal steps and about room for 20 people. Highlands an empty old cold gym floor, you can't walk on that without almost busting your butt. Belevue was full of roaches and tiny. I have seen a few as a player and as a former asst coach.

The atmosphere was awesome though! I'll always remember the field having a house right behind the goal posts, and the Bevins Texaco sponsorship sign either on the fence or the stadium wall maybe? I always wanted to see a ball go through that person's house...lol.

Now level with me Watusi...every time we traveled to Pond Creek it seemed like the field was always muddy, even if it was sunny and 80 degrees! did you guys get the fire department to come over and water down the field before we showed up (LOL)?

Both my sophomore (12-6 overtime win) & senior year (10-7 overtime win) were classics...great HS football atmosphere.

North Oldham visitors locker room is state of the art. Very very nice.

That house was owned by a family named Vargo. In the 90s they had a son named Mark who was Belfry's kicker, and one of the best ones we've ever had. he put many XP's in their back yard or on their house.

 

Coach Roddy never watered the field down and even if he wanted to, he wouldn't have for Russell anyway because they were just as much a smashmouth team as Belfry. The field was always a mess though. It did not drain well, was hard as a rock and never had any grass growing on it after about August 15th. It was used for Varsity, JV, Freshman, Grade School and Youth League, there was just no other fields to use. Plus Belfry practiced on it every day. So you ended up with a dust bowl that didn't drain well. Every time it rained, the mud would be very thick and took a long time to dry out.

 

I remember both those games you are talking about, they were classics and very disappointing. The loser of the annual battle with Russell knew they were not going to the playoffs and that game was played way too early in the season. It really sucked and ruined your season.
