I haven't followed this too closely, but why the rampant disappointment? From what I gather if they had just called the iPhone 4S the iPhone 5 everyone would have been ecstatic.

 

Everyone would be ecstatic about the iPhone 5 until the experts announce that if you have a 3GS or a 4 then don't buy a 5. Then people would be hot. Plus, Apple has already won. They always win. What will happen is people like me who have an ancient 3G HAVE to upgrade now. Do I buy a 4S for 199 or do I buy a 4 for 99$. Not much difference between the two but the 4S is clearly the better phone. It is just not markedly better and is it worth the extra 100 bucks? I also have three iPhones to replace so is it worth the extra 300 bucks?

 

In a few months new phone updates will likely not be compatible for 3GS so those folks who have a 3GS will start having problems with their phones like I do with mine. I have a 3G and Apple no longer supports 3G. My phone hasn't been updated in over 6 months. They'll get the 3GS folks in time and they too will have to get at least an iPhone 4 at some point. Watch.

 

 

If any of you are like me you'll own an iPhone forever. I love my iPhone. My old, ancient, non supported, non updating iPhone. I can't wait to see which one I get.

I am a sprint user who's upgrade eligable in November. I'm thinking about getting this Iphone but I've been pretty pleased with my android based phone. Anyone who's had both have any recomendations?

 

The few people I know switched from iPhone to Android and came back to iPhone within a month. I know of 5 different people who did that. Key thing is they had iPhones first. You could be the opposite. I don't know anyone who has had an iPhone and didn't thoroughly enjoy it.

It just seems like there's been a very negative reaction to the 4S label, not necessarily to what the phone brings to the table.

 

I'm in the same boat as you too. I still have the 3GS and I'm going Apple next time around too. I would love to have the 64GB version, but I might settle with the 32GB.

Many feel it isn't a true next generation phone. It doesn't have spectacular improvements such as a larger display which most people want, 1GB of RAM, support for NFC, 4G speed, some wanted metal casting as well. Instead of introducing 4g, they just said that others who claim to have 4g are actually only 3g. Still not having a removable battery has disappointed many as well.

 

As was mentioned before, if someone does not have an iPhone this will look great! If you have a 3g or older model (I have a 3g), then you may want to upgrade, but not if you have a 3s or 4g. Still a good phone.

I was pumped about possibly getting 1GB of RAM.

 

I have the 3GS and don't really see this as a necessary upgrade.

 

Seems to me the main thing Apple is pushing I'd Siri. I am A) not sure how much I'd use it and B) skeptical about how effective it is. I have never been very impressed with any voice recognition devices/services I've used so far.

That was me and then my friend, who may as well work for Apple as a salesman, told me he'd only upgrade if he had a 3G or 3GS made me more negative when he told that. If he isn't getting it the day it comes out then Apple is holding back on us.:lol::lol:

The "disappointment" was short-lived. Apple is having trouble filling all of the pre-orders for the 4S.

Heard on the radio that it was named the "4S" because it's "4 Steve", instead of the 5. Not sure how true it is or how that fits into the features of the phone but.........

Finally just got through the line and got my new 4S. So far it's pretty awesome and so much better than my 3GS. Haven't had much time yet to play around with the video and other improvements. But the processing speed is incredible. Now, I 'm just going to wait for all the bugs to hit!

I will likely be getting it sometime this week or next. I hear the Siri feature is awesome.

UPS guy just delivered mine. Can't wait to crack it open.

I just ordered and Android because after using a Blackberry for only 5 months, I can't wait to get back to the Android platform. Didn't get the best phone possible, because I couldn't afford it. But I'm hoping that the Droid X2 will be enough to let me get BGP on it.
