2. I could care less if the "Lord's prayer statement" is in this thread. You just keep telling me to read the thread title which still, several posts later, says absolutely nothing about the Lord's Prayer.

To be honest I don't, except to say that the numbers of people I've seen not just on this thread but in communities all over that seem to get very worked up over this are far more than the numbers I see working at said community ministries I mentioned.

 

My experience has been overwhelmingly the exact opposite.

Look at post #47 on what Randy said, I also re read again these posts and I see no one mentions the Lord's Prayer except my self. The Moment of Silence is by others, and they agree that is what sould be done. And in the article in post #1 there is the news paper article. I wonder what happened if they said the prayer at the game or not? We say at in the locker room.

I've seen hundreds protest the absence of the 10 commandments outside the Court House here in SW VA, and quite a few raising a similar protest in Danville, VA recently over public prayer but the best response I see in my community is about 8 out of approx. 100 churches offering a free community meal once a month. It's even less in terms of volunteers at our 3 major benevolence agencies in this area that's had double digit unemployment going on 12 years now.

Organizing two weeks of camp for handicapped children and adults. Donating, collecting, organizing & distributing clothes for a free clothing store for anyone in the community who has those needs (helped a TON of folks when school started back up). Numerous fulfilled requests of financial assistance (for electric, groceries, etc.). Transportation for those who cannot provide it for themselves (to work, to the doctor, to job interviews). Several donations sent for Joplin, MO relief. Funds sent for children in Horn of Africa (where you know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, needs are legitimate). Preparing to see huge donations of food and other supplies for holiday outreaches. All this in about a 4-6 month time span.

 

Yet these individuals, like myself, feel that decisions such as these are petty & reflect either a misunderstanding or even an ignorance of America's Judeo-Christian heritage. Not an overtly Christian nation, mind you, but one that was not afraid to acknowledge God (see Declaration of Independence, among numerous other writings) & seek Him.

Glad you have 100's of volunteers. Again, I still stand by my original statement as a whole of my experience in Central KY, North-Central VA, and Southside VA.

My guess is that there are no muslims in Bell County but if one came to the football game and whipped out his prayer rug, would the same understanding be there in the stands?
