Class 1A Rankings 9-28

Featured Replies

How is Nicholas County (5-1)still getting overlooked? Maybe it will take them beating the #8 team this week, (2-4) Raceland, for them to get some love. How can a team that is 2-4 be ranked in the top 10??? I have a lot of respect for the tradition at Raceland, but tradition should have no bearing on rankings.
The KHSAA shows Nicholas County as 4-1. Four wins over four teams who have each won one game. 4-16 total. If you want rankings based on W-L records, look at the AP polls. BGP takes more factors into play when ranking teams other than W-L. The middle school team in our town is unbeaten. I didnt rank them in the BGP poll this week because they are playing middle school competition. If they played the worst high school team, they would still get beat.

Now, I'm not comparing Nicholas County to a middle school team, but instead, trying to paint a picture that there is more to ranking teams than just W-L records.

You hammer on Raceland but their two close losses to Pikeville and Lawrence County (teams that were both ranked in the BGP 10 at one time) are more impressive than any of Nicholas County's wins

Where are all the COOL Mayfield fans on this thread? Toothpick, Snot...care to comment?

sorry bjaynes, was forced to work out of town today. Just to clear this up for you, I have to point out that yes I am a cool Cardinal, but Snake cool? naaaaaaa............ no way!

A wise man once said "becareful what you wish for"

All kidding aside, I think it will come down to Mf and Bw but if it doesn't and we still win the title it will not be anyless sweet. Bw is kinda in the situation we were last year where I found myself pulling for Lex CA because I wanted to avenge the loss the previous year and I wanted to run the score up on them just as they did to us. The coaches decision to pile on is still viewed as classless to me. Anyway, if I can pick who we play I would pick Bw but if not no worries.

If Bw and Mf play, Bw will have the chance to beat Mf for the first time in school history, go to state, and snap what will could be a 28 game winning streak assuming Mf wins out. If Mayfield wins look out, next years Cards should be heavy favorites to win class A and might have a chance to really extend the winning streak if it is still intact. Mf has been a pleasant suprise for me, I didn't not think they would be as good as they have been so I am cautiously optimistic about their chances which is significantly different from my thoughts at the begining of the year, espically if Bw continues to favor the run which would make it hard to beat Mf

Mayfield will do it just like last year come playoff time, one game at a time. LHC will be a formable foe as they were last year. LHC was a hard hitting club but didnt match up will with us in the speed department. I hope we dont have to play on a real cold and wet field, it evens it up to much. BW is who I want but every once in a while upsets happen but I still think it's Mayfield's to lose.

I think Raceland has a decent team and are ranked deservedly, however in fairness, their 2 wins have come against 2 teams with a combined 0-10 record.

Devilshelper, you are exactly right. Our only chance to prove ourselves will be over the next 4 weeks.

Nicholas Co probably has as much right to be in the Top 10 as Eminence does. Eminence hasn't exactly beat a who's who of HS football either.

If you think I was hammering on Raceland, it is obvious that you have never gotten into trouble...kudos to you. I think you will see how well Nicholas is playing right now when they play Raceland. Can you really validate Raceland being ranked ahead of a 4-1 team?

Toothpick, BW will favor the run until it can be stopped. Then you will see more of Vocke in the flat (has 11 catches so far) to get him in space. The Enquirer this morning had the updated stats leaders and it was no surprise to see Vocke up near the top in rushing yardage. The 12+ yards per carry was the impressive stat and that will probably swell in the next month with the 1A schedule looming. I then scrolled down the rest of the leaders and at the bottom was BW JV RB, Mitchell Thomas. He has over 200 yards on just 10 or 11 carries and is over 20 yds. per carry. That speaks volumes for focusing on the run for the near future at least.

What would Nichlas County's record be if they played Raceland's schedule? I will stick my neck out and make a prediction - Nicholas County will lose tonight to Ludlow. I know nothing about either team but looking at their schedules and results, I will take Ludlow in the upset. Schedule has a LOT to do with a team's record, especially in the smaller classes.

Vocke is a great back, likely the best we will see the entire year.

lol.. you're right.. I'm losing it today..:jump:

I think Eminence is ranked in the top 10 in the AP poll, so that is probably what led to your post. Just wanted to point that out so you didn't think you were completely losing it. :D

I'm thinking we got that one right after seeing the 42-8 score.
