Thoughts? Fine, raise taxes on both of them since they want to volunteer.
September 27, 201115 yr Author In light of the current economic/budget crisis, should the Bush tax cuts be let to expire? That would return taxes to where they were less than ten years ago.

Thoughts? Was not aware that there was/is a mechanism in place to keep them from paying more than required in taxes.
September 27, 201115 yr Fine, raise taxes on both of them since they want to volunteer. In the spirit of fair and balanced I hereby volunteer that my taxes be lowered to keep everything at a happy equilibrium.

Then do it on everybody and let ALL of the Bush tax cuts expire rather then hiding behind the class warfare of the Obama administration. And let me echo other's sentiments when I say what is preventing either of these gentlemen from cutting a check?

September 27, 201115 yr That might help the budget crisis but would do nothing but hurt the economic crisis.Totally agree.
September 27, 201115 yr Author That might help the budget crisis but would do nothing but hurt the economic crisis. I am not sure I buy into that. I hear that comment often and I am not sure I believe it. Why do you believe it? Then do it on everybody and let ALL of the Bush tax cuts expire rather then hiding behind the class warfare of the Obama administration. And let me echo other's sentiments when I say what is preventing either of these gentlemen from cutting a check? What Bush tax cuts would not be eliminated?
September 27, 201115 yr a) I am willing to bet my income taxes that this was a staged event. b) To the extremely wealthy, and this includes many of our Hollywood friends, extra taxes hardly impacts their discretionary income. To the rest of us, the talk always starts at "wealthiest income earners" but when enacted ends up affecting couples earning around and below $100K annually. And, I know that impacts a lot of couples who have either worked their behinds off for years to get to that level, or invested a lot of money in education (and have the loans to show for it) and now get less discretionary income because they are so "wealthy" and now take years to pay off their loans.
September 27, 201115 yr I am not sure I buy into that. I hear that comment often and I am not sure I believe it. Why do you believe it? What Bush tax cuts would not be eliminated? One of the reasons, IMO, for our current woes is the lack of disposable income amoung the middle class. This is keeping demand down. Increasing taxes on the middle class at this point in time would not be a good thing. The fact is the government brings in over $2 trillion a year. If they can't run this country on $2 trillion something is seriously wrong with the system.
