Did anyone see the budget put into household terms yesterday? I think it was on the foxnews website. Don't know how reliable the figures were but it really put it into a format that anyone can understand with the mountain we have to climb to get back somewhere near fiscal stability. It was depressing.

Cuts are much more necessary than eliminating the Bush tax cuts. However, if making people pay the tax rates they were paying in 2000 helps, I have no problem with it.

 

And I must say, I congratulate each of you on your success in your career. Earning $200,000+ a year puts each of you in that upper 1.5% so you should be very proud.

Actually we should be proud that we've avoided the class envy that seems to affect some people. What's right is right. I'm good with everyone's taxes being raised, not just targeted classes.

I am ok with raising everyone's taxes if there are significant spending cuts that go along with it. You have to show me a reasonable, achievable plan for how the tax increase and spending cuts will fix the debt/budget crisis. The first step for me though is letting the Bush tax cuts expire. Now is not the time to cut taxes.

Actually I'm not ok with raising taxes on anyone at this point. Like I said over $2 trillion should be more then enough to run this country. Get the spending in order and then maybe maybe we can talk about tempory increases to help pay the debt.

VOR, few if any of us have a problem ponying up our fair share for truly essential government services such as legitimate national defense, roads, bridges, etc. Our problem is with non-essential aid and services that become permanent entitlements. Some of us have a problem with creating a new trillion dollar entitlement in Obamacare, that is already costing many of us around 10% more on our existing health care... an entitlement that all are supposed to help shoulder, but some have received a Royal Exemption from participating in...

 

We have half the citizens of our country paying 97% of the cost of running things... and another 50% paying little or no income tax at all. Do you honestly believe that a politician whose seat of power and privilege relies upon the voter support of the bottom half of income earners will genuinely labor diligently to see their numbers reduced?

 

Seriously?

 

It’s time to stop the insane spending. It’s time to stop allowing power warped politicians to buy votes. It’s time to quit trying to level the field by tearing down the successful. The only way we do it and survive is by lifting those who struggle. We need a new and more successful middle class.

That was a rather flippant comment which I should not have added in there. I apologize to you and the others included in that post.

 

It just gets to me how strongly those who are firmly entrenched in the middle class will vociferously argue for the upper class to keep as much as they can, when the very system that enabled them to reach that success is crumbling below them. I am all for the successful person (and everyone else for that matter) keeping as much of their hard earned dollars as possible. But I also believe that those highly successful people owe more back to the system that led to their success than anyone else.

Then let all of them expire not just the ones on the upper class.

When more then 50% of income earners pay no income tax how can taking more of anyone's money who is already part of paying over 90% of the taxes in this country be in any way shape or form fair?
