This not simply an unranked foe. It's still a team that is much deeper than Beechwood and this is a rivalry game.

The schools are just a few miles apart. When rivalries play records do not matter.

This game should be very competitive and a good one to watch that may not be decided until late in the 4th quarter.

I don't know that I would classify this as a rivalry game. They've only been playing each other for a few years. However, I agree that they're not simply an unranked foe. Dixie lost to the #1 2A team to start the season, and they didn't have their QB for that game. Then they lost to the #1 4A team, and quite possibly the 2nd best team in the state. Lastly, they lost to the #2 4A team, which could possibly be one of the top 5-10 teams in the state. Depending on the rankings that are being looked at, they're just going by record as I've seen one with BC ahead of Dixie, and Dixie took care of them last week. Now, before some twists my words around, I'm not saying they should be ranked, or that they're world beaters, I'm just saying they're better than their record shows.

Has there been a close game in the series since it started in mid 2000s? Seems to me that Beechwood kicked but for a few years and more recently Dixie has been returning the favor. This could be the game when things are more evenly matched.

Three or four years ago, it was a close game that went to the wire. Dixie controlled the game for 3 quarters and then Beechwood took over the game in the fourth quarter for a come from behind win. Last year was actually a fairly close game. I think the final score was 35-21. It was closely fought till Dixie put it away in the fourth quarter. This is a rivalry game because many of the players were team mates throughout youth football on the Spartans. Other players played on the Raiders, a youth football rival of the Spartans. So the majority of these players are very familiar with each and many are friends with each other. I also agree with the poster above, Dixie's record is a fooler. They have played one of the toughest schedules in the state so far and all three losses are to teams that are arguably top ten in the entire state. A challenging game for Beechwood and Dixie.

Based on his statements both now and previously along with a few others, polls and returning players I certainly infer that this is a great Bw team and one that should handle a unranked 6A team. VOR has proven to be a very knowledgable fan and he knows his stuff, he has proven that over the years. I too made a simple statement "If Beechwood is who they claim to be this year then they should handle a unranked 6A foe." and I still stand by it. It is my opinion so lets move on

Amen, I started to say the exact same and got side tracked.

 

No matter who turns out to be the state champ in 1A from Mf, Bw or another, both are great teams and programs. Should the expected game between the two become reality and Bw wins I will be pulling for Bw to win it all. I really like the Bw program because they remind me of Mf. I am still the same way toward Danville, my favorite AA team from out time together and another of the small great programs
