PRESSURE on Pike will go along way to supplement the "sure" tackling by BW defenders. CCH pressured him all night long in game 1 and he was forced out of the pocket and also made some throws that he probably did not want to. If he has enough time in the pocket for a cup of coffee and a sandwich then he will pick you apart. Get him to throw off balance and interesting things happen. Bring the pressure from his right, flush and contain to his left and things get real uncomfortable for a right handed QB to throw with any accuracy and zip.

I'm far from a defensive guru or coach but I would think it would depend on how you line up. Does your front line only have 3 or 4 down linemen? Do they have 3 down with LB's walked up outside the offensive tackles/ends? If it's the latter then I would think the two DEs do not have contain responsibility.

If I was Beechwood I would be also concentrating a bit on Justice. He gets the majority of his yards between the tackles. And I wouldn't take the recieving core of Cohorn, Pitzer, and Hatton too lightly either. Pike doesn't need much time to get off his passes of late. Can Beechwood's secondary match up with Dixie's recievers? Can Beechwood get enough pressure on Pike, or stop Justice? Can Dixie's defense contain Vocke? Dixie's O ad D lines have been doing a pretty good job these last 2 games. Dixie's defense has gotten alot better, as has the O and D lines since they have only 4 players playing both ways.

If Dixie should lose a 6A game and end up in a 3-way tie beating BW is probably the game that will give them them #1 seed.

Not to sound rude ... But my guess is that 75% percent of defenses today do not stress outside contain as a primary responsibility for defensive ends. The actual number is probably higher than 75%.

 

The game has changed significantly over the past 10 to 15 years .... Which means that defenses have changed with the times as well.

Depending on the scheme and stunts DEs will sometimes try to force the play outside by "pinching in" utilizing LBs and DBs to step up. A lot depends where the strengths of the offense lie.
