Saint Edward (OH) 30 Elder (OH) 10

Lakewood St. Ed 30

Elder 10

Lakewood St Ed is ranked #4 in the USA today Super 25 . Elder was down only 3 points at halftime , but second half turnovers did them in.

With Elder still on the schedule for Highlands , is Elder really having a down year considering who they have lost to ? ( Trinity , St. Ed ) Your Thoughts ?

It might be down for Elder. But we know relatively speaking that means nothing when discussing them opposing a Ky team. Losing to T and St Eds is not a good barometer.

Considering that Elder has never lost to Highlands (despite these two programs playing in some years - most notably in 2000 - when Highlands had a very good team), I would say that if Highlands manages to beat Elder in the Pit this season, it would probably indicate that Elder is a bit "down" and Highlands is a bit "up."

Elder will be playing for their playoff lives when HHS comes to the Pit, and when Highlands plays Elder this year the 'Birds will be using a full two-platoon system (unlike in past games against Elder), so it will be interesting to see how this game plays out.

Of note, the St. Edward-Elder game was very close for the first half.

There is a lot of football to be played between now and then. Who knows what will happen as the season progresses.

Then I guess Trinity really isn't that good then. Funny how when a team may loose a game or two, it's a down year and it. I know where you are coming from, but it's always the same old song and dance. One team down and the other up. Doesn't it have to be that way for one team to beat another. Makes no sense.

Does anyone think this will have any effect on the national rankings? Trinity's win over Elder was far more impressive than St Edwards. Was this game played at the Pit?

Was not at the pit.

You failed to highlight the second part of my statement, the part where I wrote that a win would show that Highlands is "up" this year. Highlands has never beaten Elder, so it would be a big, big deal for HHS to come away with the win at the Pit this year.

With regard to Trinity, the Rocks made Elder look like a peewee team last week. Trinity didn't just scape by with a win... they could have won by 70 if they had wanted to.

I agree. To do something of this order FOR THE FIRST TIME - would be HUGE IMHO.

Elder looked plenty good and plenty scary to me.

I still beleive that this could benefit Trinity.

Elder is probably the 5th best team in the city of Cincinnati right now. Their defense, as evidenced by the severe difference in their play vs. that of St. Xavier vs. Trinity, is below average, at best. Their offense is capable of scoring against mediocre to below average defenses.

Long story short, Elder will lose at least 4, more than likely 5, times this year. They've already got two (Trinity, St. Edward) and still have Miami Central this week (L), @ St. Xavier (L), home vs. Moeller (L) home vs. Highlands (?). The two teams they have beaten are a combined 2-6 on the season and neither one will qualify for the playoffs.

If there is ever going to be a year that Highlands wins in the Pit, it may be this year.
