I am not well informed but I suppose I'd go with Mayfield.

BTW, who is the next best 1A team and how far behind these two are they?

 

Either Hazard or Holy Cross...imo, after those 2, there's a considerable drop off...I'd say that these 2 would be the only 2 that could possibly challenge Mayfield or Beechwood..

It seems to me that Beechwood was voted #1 at the start simply because their seniors won the NKY freshmen title or at least thats how the BW faithfull state their case. Mayfield had lots of big question marks and they were legitimate question marks at the start of the season. I think some of those questions have been answered while I believe BW can win the 1A title i still believe it's Mayfield's to lose.

I'd say make them both # 1 and then skip to #3 in this weeks poll. Good thing is this will be played out week 4 of the playoffs, barring something crazy happening.

 

Either Beechwood or Mayfield could be penciled in at #1 and you really can't argue against them unless your a fan of the other school.

 

Too bad some smart AD didn't get these two together for a Bowl Game somewhere in the middle of the two schools this year.

Julian Tackett has them penciled in for a bowl game in week #14

Hard to not pick Mayfield after the Paducah Tilghman game.

It has to be Mayfield.

1. They are the defending champs.

2. They beat up on PT.

3. If BW makes it that far, BW will have to travel.

4. I think that freshman championship is over-rated and 4 years ago. Things change, kids get bigger and stronger

Beachwood allways makes me nervous, however, they have never beat Mayfield, and it wont be an easy task to get the first win over the cards on Mayfields home turf! Eventually Beachwood is gonna win one of these games, and it sounds to me like they think this will be the year, but if the cards offense keeps improving at the rate they are, i dont think that it will be this year, and another note mayfield starts alot of players that are back next year. Should be an awesome game, but dont forget that Mayfied will probably have to beat a strong LHC team that returns alot of starters and seem to be having a good year, they wont be able to match the cards speed and that will probably decide the game, but not many, if any, 1A teams will be able to match the speed of the cardinals.

Mayfield is tops in 1A. It's theirs to lose. It's early in the season though. IF Beechwood beats HC and CCH @ CCH that might change my opinion.

The Mayfield/Paducah game has made me think some more. I don't know much about Paducah now, but do know that they seem to have usually put out pretty good teams. With consideration to how Mayfield beat them over the weekend and with being the defending state champs, I rate them #1 for now. I'm really interested in seeing how Beechwood does against Dixie, Cov Cath, and New Cath. Depending on how those games go, I could change my mind.
