Beechwood is a heck of a program. Not sure why you shot that at me???

All you need at a school is 12 to 15 good players to compete . Just becouse you have 50 to 60 kids dont mean you will have a winning program .

Then why in the world does the KHSAA find it necessary to have 6 classes. I thought the reasoning was that with less classes the disparity in enrollment number in each class was to large and the small schools in each class couldn't compete. I must be missing something here.

So, are we saying that enrollment doesn't really matter and that any sze school can compete with another? We might want to let the KHSAA in on this revelation.

 

Any school can IF THEY HAVE THE PLAYERS and talented players at that. Let's not forget these small schools like this are schools that usually get athletes who decide to come there once they are about to go to high school. We see private schools all the time do well, or at least good enough where they can beat big schools. Just like we see teams who have a history of being good like a Beechwood stay good, because if a person has a talented kid at a young age. These parents usually will move into that schools district so they can play ball there, since they know that they are usually good at football. So yes enrollment don't matter as much, when you do get a lot of the better athletes to end up at your school. Which is not a shot at Beechwood or schools like that, because it's not their fault that people end up wanting to send their kids there. Not to mention the education part of it, which private schools and schools like Beechwood are usually schools that have very good academics so gives more reason for people to send their kids there.

 

So yes you can be small school and compete if you are a private school, or a school that is known for how good their football program is and also very good academics. However you will find that just because you have a few small schools like that, doesn't mean the majority are. So you want to hurt the schools that wouldn't be able to compete really if there wasn't any classes in football, just because there are a few small schools who are good enough to beat big schools?

 

Which by the way I have never been a fan of the 6 classes, I liked the 4 class system. Or if anything should have only moved up to 5 classes. My point is though just because you have a few small schools who can compete with big schools, it doesn't mean that is the reason to change things.

Holy Cross is building a reputation as a football school. They are not there yet and do not get players moving to them because of football. Soon they will.

At this time Holy Cross is another option for kids that in the past would have went Cov Cath or Newport Central Cath in the past, just because of football and being a private catholic school. It is an option.

At this time I would be suprised if any kid chose HC over CCH or NCC because of the football program. But with each win for HC it is getting closer to happening.

I would bet that if a decent player had the option for HC and one of the others, and for some reason would not feel confident that he would be a contributing player at CCH or NCC, they will start to chose HC in the future.

Nice win for Holy Cross. And certainly wins will help their program. But, I have to imagine some Jags fans had this penciled in as a W. If we all are in agreement that size really has no bearing on how good a football prgram can be, than can we just state in unison " 6 class football in Ky is totally uncalled for". Will everyone say that? I doubt it.

I am a Cooper fan and I can speak for most dads on the team. We did not have this game penciled in as a W . I feel like they just got out played Holy Cross played 4 quarters and Cooper played 2 .

I think Cooper will win some games this year . They just need to get some things together !!!

Cooper has a good group of kids. As a HC fan I will tell you they have a very strong defense. The 2 fumbles didnt just fall out of our hands. They were created by the Cooper defense. HC has an offense they will roll over some teams but Cooper didnt let this happen. Their def will keep them in a lot of games.

Their offense needs to get more stable.

I would like to think that HC def cause them problems that other teams wont, but Cooper needs to get some better blocking up front to get on track.

Fans were great and facility was nice. Just a thought to add.

No. But very close. This and last years class are doing more with less because the new coaches being brought in. HC is on the way up.

Quality coaches make the difference in a program. Beechwood has them. It takes more than 50-60 kids.

I think this Holy Cross team is better than people were giving them credit for. #3 for HC is a great athlete and definitely has to be gameplanned for. They have a nice QB too. Good runner with a strong arm. Wish both teams the best of luck the rest of the year.
