August 14, 201115 yr Author Got a new handgun this weekend. Glock model 22, .40 cal. It's been a grueling debate for a while now, but....... 9mm or .40? To take it a step further, what handgun do you guys prefer? 9mm? .40? .45? 357? Take into consideration feel, effectiveness, durability, etc.
August 14, 201115 yr I have the 9mm, same weapon. Bought it because ammo was cheaper. And I have several others in various calibers. Solid weapon.

And good call on the ammo, .40 is always going to be $5-10 more expensive. Not much difference other than the price, just the .40 has a little bit bigger cartridge for more stopping power.
August 14, 201115 yr I have had a Sig P226 for a few years in 9m which I really like. I recently bought a Ruger SR9C 9m which is smaller and a nice carry weapon. So far I like it a lot. http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-SR9C.htm
August 14, 201115 yr Its compact, has a pretty nice trigger and came with a 10 and 17 round clip, plus a clip extension for the small clip that extends the grip. It feels good in the hand and is small enough to conceal about anywhere. I like it.

Those are very compact and the grip is really short, looks to be around the same size and the clip extension you mentioned does wonders for a gun like that because another inch or so is all you need for the grip to fit perfect. Another mistake people make shooting guns with the smaller grip is they sometimes make the mistake of getting their hand too far up the grip and getting it caught on the recoil. Talking about some pain. Hasn't ever happened to me but its easy to do and I have saw it happen. Real easy to do with how you described your gun and with a gun the size of the Glock 27.

I've had a few different 9mm pistols, Smith, Sig, but this one is actually the most accurate (for me anyway) that I've shot.

There are a lot of good guns out there and a lot of quality gun makers, but for what you need a gun to do you can't go wrong with Glock IMO. Just a good solid all around gun, nothing flashy, nothing too fancy, but gets the job done.
August 16, 201115 yr As for me, I like my Colt model 1911. When it hits you, you go down and you stay down. Carry around a S&W .38 revolver for size factors, but if I have to use it, I'm emptying it and running like Hades. Also been known to carry around a S&W 9mm (model 59 I think), but it's not as compact as the .38. Plus with the .38 being a revolver, I can keep it loaded all the time and not have to worry about spring fatigue.

I liked the trimmed grips, typical 1911 style but man the all black ones with chrome hammer and chrome trigger, etc. are sweet.
August 20, 201115 yr Colt Combat Commander 9 mm for me. I'm more comfortable with it. I've had it forever, so maybe that's why.
August 29, 201115 yr I've always loved the Beratta 92 in 9MM. I use to own one in stainless steel but sold it years ago. If I were to buy a new gun today I would probably go with a Springfield XDM. I would also think hard about a Glock 20 in 10MM.
