What were the defensive bright spots for both teams tonight?

It was pretty dominating in Beechwood's favor. They didn't keep score but I think Beechwood scored on every possession except 2 - one was a fumble that Conner picked up and ran in for one of their scores. The other Conner TD was on a nice 50 yard or so run by one of their backs. Barker had a couple of good throws and a couple nice scrambles but also threw a couple INTs. He obviously has an arm and talent but he is a sophomore so I hope the fans in Hebron aren't expecting too much from him this year. He will have a good year but he will make mistakes too because that is what sophomores do, even good ones. Beechwood had some nice runs by Erdman, TD runs by Staten and Nussbaum and a couple long TD passes from Davis as well. I should also mention that Joey Nussbaum was putting kickoffs deep in the end zone all night.

Voice, Thanks or the details.

Sounds like Davis passed well with 2 long TDs. Did he throw any interceptions or get sacked?

You said Barker had two INTs, was he sacked any and if so, do you know by who?

He won't get to 2K only because he'll sit out the second half of most Class A games.

or

the Bw coach will choose not to give him a single carry in the second half. I attended a Bw game last year where this happened

I remember him having one game where he had about 240 on 8 carries. Same game?

Beechwood has a very good team and I am saying right now they will beat SK and have a very good chance to beat CCH and Dixie. Senior laden team with very few weaknesses. If they can keep everyone healthy, they will win their state championship. Will be a fun team to watch throughout the season.

No, I was referring to the Mayfield game where, for whatever unknown reason, did not give him a single touch in the second half that I can recall. With such a weapon that is hard to figure but it is easy to be a coach in the stands. I'm sure they had their reasons

They are certainly the favorites

I was not overly impressed with BW's passing game. They will not need it in 1A until deep into the playoffs. You cannot simply count on the "throw it deep down the sideline" pass. To be fair, it's one game and it's early so it has time to improve but that would be their one offensive weakness IMO.

I disagree. They are a bootleg, sprint-out passing team, for the most part. If you do not stay disciplined on the outside they will throw it deep down the sideline. The QB made the correct read on the pass plays. It is not as if they are running 1 receiver routes and just chucking it up.

You tie the decision making and passing ability of Davis, an explosive running game, a big strong well coached athletic OL you have a scary good football team.

Good Luck this year BW!!

You still are and everyone up here knows it. You are the defending champs. You smoked a Tennessee power in a scrimmage. It looks like ya'll just reloaded. You scare us to death....and I am being very serious.

Vocke will have a tough time running on SK.

Who does Beechwood scrimmage this week coming up their first game is on the 26th against SK.

I just didn't see much out of the passing game you mention. I didn't see a lot of strong throws. I saw throws down the middle that should be been picked off.

I won't disagree with your assessment that they take advantage of a lack of discipline.

As I said previously, it's one game in August and I'm guessing they didn't show a lot.
