Top 5 NKY QB's for the 2011 season

Featured Replies

Zeke Pike and Patrick Towels are the front runners but who comes in behind them? Thoughts?

I would say Hightchew, Barker and Davis..

Bir

I forgot about Bir..I would take him over Davis..

I was thinking of this topic recently and I came up with 6 that set themselves apart from the rest and all 6 have been mentioned. From a pure traditional qb standpoint I'd say the big two and then in any order Barker, Bir, and Davis. NCC's qb is such a stud athlete that he has to be in the conversation despite not being a pure qb.

What is a pure QB? Does he pass well, hand the ball off well, option, and counter well?

Doesn't Ryle have two QBs right now?

Fair question as to my intent.

Hard to put into words but IMO Hightchew is a great , great athlete that they turned into a qb despite the fact that he would probably be a stud running back or receiver. I don't see that with the others I mentioned. In no way is it a shot at the kid. He'd be on my team in a second. I'm just not sure I'd have him at qb. It works great for NCC though.

It will be interesting to see how Brady is used this year. Last year, he was responsible for a TON of ball fakes and misdirection. I'm not talking the Read Option out of the shotgun. I'm talking from under center faking to as many as 3 different players throughout the course of the game. By the end of the year, he was very, very good at hiding the ball and making proper reads. I don't know if NewCath will stay in that mindset w/ a lot of their line gone, or if they will revert back to the spread offense from the gun. A thing that is overlooked is how much he improved as a passer last year. He will be a solid # 3 in NKY.

They may not be playing the competition as Highlands and Dixie are but the soph from Conner will put up ridiculous numbers this year. With that kind of arm, i don't think Trosper is going to think about running the football. I will say he is the solid #3.

I'm excited for Drew but I will caution all to remember he has not started a varsity game yet. I'd imagine there will be growing pains along the way. With that said, he does have all of the tools.

IMO a player has to be very, very special to get that high of recognition as a sophomore QB. My guess is Barker will throw more INT's than TD passes this year. That is just the way it is with a sophomore QB regardless of how good they are.

After Towles and Pike I would predict Bir and Highchew to be 3 and 3A among the QBs in N.Ky.

I believe Patrick Towles won a State Championship his soph year. He also had 10tds and 2ints for the season..
