All adult apartment complexes are no longer allowed on the basis of discrimination.

That is because of housing laws.

I can see the good and the bad. But if a person has kids who are calm and are no problem there, then why make everyone suffer? Then again, they are not banning all kids, just those under 7.

With my first of four sons I did this, when I walked into a place I would tell the Host/Hostess to sit us away from people if they could. And I did this with all of them, it worked out pretty good, and we usually went to eat early.

 

They always understood what I was doing. Not my sons the hostess.

I think that its a great idea, but I also don't have young kids. I'd be interested to see if other establishments follow.

I have a 2 and a half year old that I feel behaves very well in public and I am totally on board with this decision. It makes me crazily nervous that my son acting up could drive people nuts when they are trying to enjoy lunch or dinner out. We don't go out very often, but if we did and there was a place we liked with this rule we would understand and go somewhere else.

Are you sure? A couple of years ago there was a restaurant in Mason Ohio who put up a sign that said soemthing like "You must speak English, if not you will be refused". Clearly aimed at the hispanic community. It was either the county or the state said he could do that as it's a private business, but said it wasn't the best PR move.

 

You can't discriminate against someone due to race, nationality, or alienage. I'm not sure, but I think that that restaurant owner lost. If he won, it was b/c he opened the door for all people, but only if they spoke English. I don't see how that would be ok. The Supreme Court says that even though these are privately owned companies, if each company decided that they would not serve people because of color or nationality, it was would negatively affect Interstate Commerce. Therefore, it is illegal.

Can you discriminate by age? I don't think you can against the elderly? Not sure how this would apply. I'm OK with this guys decision as a business owner, though we took our kids with us often and I don't mind seeing kids out. I can see how it could be disrupting. Worse dining experience I ever had was going to the Precinct for my anniversary and sitting at a table next to 2 edlerly women talking about their health issues. Didn't do much for the mood of the evening. :madman:

That is what I was thinking at the time, but RTS was correct, it wasn't anything protected, it was about communication. Not sure why the guy did it, as money has one color!

Just like adults, some kids are high strung and won't listen no matter what you say or do.

That must be a state law, because they are definitely allowed here. Also 55 and older apartment complexes, condos, and trailer park, I mean, mobile home communities are legal.
