I can agree with that IMO too but I think Casey Co is better than at least 4 other teams on the Raiders schedule so the Raiders going 5-5 and a trip back to the playoffs will be a successful season and a step in the right direction for the program. But just beating Casey Co only would be just demoralizing for the program and besides that it wouldn't make much since with the schedule this year. JMO! I personally think the RaIders will be 6-4 and return to the playoffs but I still think there are 8 winnable games on their schedule. Go get'em Raiders!

I am excited for the season to start. I truely believe that McCreary has an excellent opportunity to atleast match their best season ever. They are loaded with athletes and experience and as was said earlier they have a favorable schedule. I think the key for the Raiders will be offensive line play and how well the defense performs. The Raiders O-line will be relatively young as experience goes so it will be up to the coaching staff to coach them up and have them ready to perform. Defense has always been the weak-link in McCreary football and I am not sure why. Even the years I coached it seemed we had to just out score our opponents because we had a hard time stopping them. We have good athletes and they are aggressive but defense doesn't come natural to them and it seems everyone always just wanted to play offense. So, getting the Raiders to have a defensive frame of mind and pitch a few shut-outs will be another key to their success. So in review: O-line and defense is the two big keys and if the Raiders get both of those things lined out every one should watch out because the Raiders will be capable of winning many games. My prediction is 5-5 at worse and 8-2 at best with a good shot to return to the playoffs! Good Luck Raiders its time to pack your lunch and go to work!

JMO , the talent is there at MC to win, more support from the community,the powers that be,and they need the whole coaching staff on the same page, i am not trying to be negative at all just stating my opinion,but you cant practice an hour or less a day and be competitive at the high school level.Good luck guys I hope you have a better game next week.

From what I know of the practice schedule they are there from 3:00 -5:30 everyday. You shouldn't make statements like that on this forum and make it look like the staff is not doing anything to get the kids better each and every week. Yes you were trying to be negative by making a false statement of the length of time the team is practicing.

I can tell that you are the kind of person who enjoys other people's struggles and if the outcomes were different you would never post on the raiders. You seem to be the type of person that never played a team sport. People that have done so know the hard work that goes into it and would not bash others when things are not going well. you know everything about football and basketball so you should try and coach both of them and see what it is like.

I know with previous coaches they had trouble getting the players to show up for practice. No clue if that is the case now, but one McCreary coach told me multiple times they had to start players that would miss one or two practices a week, because if they didn't play them they wouldn't have enough. That has been several years ago though, same coach said that in weight training when he got on to kids for skipping a parent complained to the administration and he was told to leave the kids alone if they didn't want to come lift weights.

 

This is not me trying to be negative about McCreary or their current coaches, I really hope they do well, but I know these are problems they've encountered in the past.

boilercat1213 this is a message board. I am not putting any players down. Myself and HOP have been at this message board thing for a few years. We have good exchanges back and forth every year. Sometimes HOP gets me good, sometime I get him. Its all in fun. Like HT721 says, I hope McCreary does well.

 

One other thing...I have coached on both ends of the stick.

I'm one that said there were 7 or 8 winnable games on schedule before the season started. It was not to put pressure on anyone, I just wanted the kids to have confidence going into the season.

I watched some practice early in the year and at that time they were practicing from 3:00 until 5:30. Havn't been over in a while.

Banker you talk about pressure, McCreary plays Casey this week and you have just made this the biggest game of the year. Win and all is forgotten I sure hope they get it done!

Trenchmaster I think you would need to worry about Whitley County, that is your team right? I am talking to HOP and the others from McCreary about what ht721 was saying. If you have some good input then lets hear it. I am just trying to get to the bottom of why the Raiders are not winning after such huge preseason expectations.

I am worried about Whitely County. I support them good bad or indifferent we are turning a corner and will be back into the playoffs. As for McCreary I have always rooted for my nieghbors as number 2. It angers me to see someone who is so involved with ahtletics like you embarrass and stir stuff up. You are sarcastic with your questions and you have a tone that demeans the program and community. Yet you are a part of it. Support Coach Smith and his program or shut up and leave.

Well said but HB has played many team sports in his time. He is very involved in the athletic scene at McCreary trust me. Coach Smith, who I respect greatly needs to watch his back with this guy.
