No, Hatton didn't play football last year....this is his first year.

 

Toss in Hassel, Evans and Fox with the three mentioned above and there's plenty to be excited about in Edgewood this upcoming season.

 

I agree it should be another exciting season for the Colonels. But is Pike definitey playing basketball or will his football scholarship prevent him from playing? It will definitely hurt them and be very disappointing if he doesn't play.

Zeke is saying he will enroll at AU in May.

 

That makes Dixie a legitimate contender for a state title IMO.

I just don't see Stansbury playing the 5. It's not his game. He likes to be on the perimeter.

Here's my 2 cents......

 

Stansberry returns as their leading rebounder and shot blocker.

 

You'll see the (frosh) Niehaus and possibly Caple and Milligan getting PT. Milligan came over from the football team (I'm thinking 6'4" 260)

 

Keep in mind Juwan Evans while not tall, plays long and can outjump most big's in the ninth.

 

Dixie's guards also rebound well in Hatton, Hassel, and Fox.

 

As far as who plays where?....I'm guessing they start out with a smaller quicker lineup until they can get someone groomed into the 5 position. Once they do that, it will allow Stansberry to do his thing on the perimeter.

 

I don't see boards being a big issue in ninth region play, but when they play some of the teams down state, things could get dicey.

 

Time will tell....Dixie's December schedule is brutal.

Board work is one thing. The other side of it is bulk, strength and being tough in the middle. Pike was very good defensively in the middle so someone is going to have to step in there. The Pike move is a real bummer for Coach Chevalier and the Colonels but they still are one of the favorites in the 9th region. Their opportunity to win state though definitely took a hit.

Wow - Zeke going to college in Jan. is a huge blow to Dixie. They will have to shift players and re-group their team like most of the other 9th Region teams. Will make 9th Region a toss up again.

I agree, but I still do not see Dixie having problems with rebounding even without Pike. Stansbury will definitely pick up the slack and should lead the team on the boards. It may be a little more difficult for them out of the 9th region though and they would defintiely be better off with him.

With or without Pike, I think Dixie wins the 9th Region.

I've never seen Milligan play basketball, but if he's as physical on the court as he is on the football field, then he can help fill that physical void left by Pike. He plays with a mean streak on the field, which got him in trouble a couple times.

Wow Milligan must have grown a lot since football season he is only listed at 6'1 230 on Dixie's football roster.

Don't believe the roster....could've been a typo. He's in the 6'4" range :thumb:

I'm also curious to see how the Niehaus kid develops over the season...looks like he'll have a nice opportunity this year at the varsity level.
