June 23, 201115 yr Actually that's probably the largest increase we have been given in my 15 years working for this company. And we have increases every year. I was most active in that arena from the mid 90s through the early 2000s. For us to keep the annual increase in the "lower double-digits" (10-12% or so) we generally had to give a little on benefits. Slightly higher deductible; increased co-pays; a bit less rich on the prescription benefit, etc. Otherwise we were typically looking at closer to 20% annual increases.
June 23, 201115 yr We re-enrolled our 23 year old son on his mom's insurance ( the payment of which is taken from her check ) the first of the year . While my son was paying for his indivudual policy the cost went up from $79 a month to over $100 a month in just 1 year . The policy from his place of work was a joke ,extremely high deductibles , extremely low coverage .
June 23, 201115 yr To me the whole notion of a company sponsored health insurance plan is antiquated. Why is it done this way? People who benefit from this new ruling love it. They will until more of the cost burden is shifted to them and then they won't like it so much. Bottom line problem continues to be-the cost of health care is increasing at astronomical levels. We have all been trained to not have a clue as to what the real cost of the care is. Why are doctors allowed to charge the same whether they see you or a physicians assistant? To me seeing a physicians assistant isn't a doctors visit. How many people review their statements from their insurance carriers to see the accuracy of the bills? This current system is rife with fraud, and so many are on the take, doctors, hospitals, insurance companies. It makes me sick. Nobody involved wants their meal ticket taken away. Everybody is happy until the deal crashes down on them.

I go once per year for a physical. Physicians assistant every time.
June 23, 201115 yr With our increase that takes effect 7/1 my premium will go to $255 bi-weekly. With our son added ,for the 3 of us she has $ 238 .85 withdrawn from her check bi-weekly . How many does your plan cover ?
June 23, 201115 yr Author With our son added ,for the 3 of us she has $ 238 .85 withdrawn from her check bi-weekly . How many does your plan cover ?In network 100%, $15 copay for somethings like office visits. No deductible, no out of pocket. Out of network 0%. That's for the plan I have. There's another option that is the same premium but you can go out of network. In network has no deductible but $4500 total out of pocket (for famliy). It pays 90% until out of pocket is reached. Out of network is $1200 deductible with $10,000 out of pocket. It pays 70% until out of pocket is reached. We have a third option that is $204 bi-weekly but has a really high deductible that has to be met before it will start paying anything.
June 26, 201115 yr I agree in that case but wouldn't it make more sense for it to be something like upto 1 year after graduating college or 26 years of age which ever is first? The way it is now your kid could drop out of high school and be on your insurance until they were 26. Another thing I don't like is if they have a job that offers insurance they can still be covered no yours. That kind of goes against what RM is saying doesn't it? If they are offered insurance through their employer, they cannot be covered as a dependent child.
November 14, 201114 yr We just received an email from HR advising of our open enrollment starting for benefits. We were notified of some changes to our health coverage including a 12% increase. Also one change, due to Obamacare, that she made us aware of was this.... Now I know dependents would be covered up to 26 years of age but I thought it was only if they were a full time student. I can see making the argument for students but to me it is assinine require this for non students. Can someone give me a good reason for this? Just an FYI we were notified this month that our premiums which have had a double digit percentage increase the last 4 years were not increasing this year. :dancingpa No price increase, I guess I'll have to thank Obamacare!

November 15, 201114 yr So I take it you blamed Obamacare for the price increase? Nope price increase came mainly under Bush.
November 15, 201114 yr That's what I figured. No, I was making a point that the OP was blaming Obamacare for a premium increase when in reality most American's myself included had been experiencing double digit increases annually for the better part of a decade. So using the logic of the OP's then it couldn't be a coincendence that my premiums didn't go up the first year Obamacare was inacted, it's the reason I didn't have an increase. Sarcastic humor loses it's luster when you have to explain it.
November 15, 201114 yr Sarcastic humor loses it's luster when you have to explain it. Just make sure you blame this on Bush as well.
November 15, 201114 yr Just make sure you blame this on Bush as well. The blame game goes both ways. Each party likes to blame everything on the other. Dems blame it all on Bush. Repubs blame it all on Clinton and Obama. Partisan politics is going to drive this nation right into the gutter.
