Trinity never starts freshman on varsity, no matter how good they are. It doesn't matter their talent or parentage. Jeff Brohm did not start varsity there as a freshman either. Essentially if Trinity didn't have this policy we wouldn't be having this arguement.

I honestly think that the reason Tim Couch is so popular over Brian Brohm lies in two basic reasons.

 

1) Tim Couch played for UK.

2) Tim Couch is the small town success story whereas Brian Brohm had the parentage of a football family and went to a prestigious football power. I wonder which one is going pick up more fans in rural Kentucky.

How do the numbers not back me up on this? Brian was nearly at Tim's numbers after only 3 years compared to Tim's 4. Does someone know their overall totals and comparative averages over their years as starters? Scribe care to help out here?

I agree, I think he finished 2nd in Mr. Football voting his senior year. He was a great running back but I wouldn't put him on the list at that postion, however, as a safety and kick return there haven't been many who were better.

Brian never broke national records. I also recall someone posting a list on here from ESPN for top High School Athletes and Couch was in the top five. As far as high school goes Couch was the man.

 

 

And certainly not a knock against Brohm, but he did have a little more to work with on his team than Couch ever did. Would Brohm's number have been as good had he played somewhere else. Playing behind Trinity's line has to pad the stats somewhat. A lot of quarterbacks have to run for their lives immediately as soon as the ball is snapped.

Brian still needs to make the NFL. To start the comparisons to Couch.

Its hard to beat 3 straight titles for Brohm, not many hs qb's can claim that. Sure Couch's numbers were better but where are his rings?

I never said anything about recruiting or anything. Sounds like you might be a little to touchy on the subject--guilty conscience maybe--whatever. Or maybe it could be that Tim Couch was a 1st team ALL SEC performer and the number one pick in the NFL draft--which pretty much makes my case. Conference USA and this year's big (soon to play itself out of a bcs spot) east are not nearly the same level and I'll bet the house that Brohm never gets picked number 1 in the draft. Also Couch finished in the top 5 in the heisman voting. Brohm has done none of these things--if you're suggesting that Brohm is better because of his titles in high school then give Couch the same team and see what would happen. I'm certain that Couch would have been able to squeak by at Trinity with their completely random conglomeration of talent around him. Besides you make it seem as if having enough sense to stay away from the crime and pollution of the bigger cities in Kentucky is a character flaw--to each his own--you can live in Louisville and smell the Ohio River and the Purina plant all you want--that doesn't make you any better or worse than anyone from the smallest town in Kentucky.

I think if you go back and read the entire thread I have already stated my opinion on the rings. They are not exactly just Brohm's rings. He did have some help.

 

My question to you is do you really think that Brohm would have 3 rings had he played for Leslie Co? You cannot discount what Coach did in high school simply based on not winning a state championship while playing a TEAM sport. Your arguement would suggest that Dan Marino wasn't one of the greatest QB's because he didn't win a Superbowl. Also I think if you asked most NFL general managers who the best current QB is that they would like to start a team with that most if not all would reply Peyton Manning. Why would they select him, he doesn't have any rings either. In fact who would you say is the best college basketball player ever. Tough question as it would have to be one of the players on the UCLA teams that won 4 consecutive titles. (I realize that they won seven in a row, but any single player was only on 4 of those teams.

 

I'm not saying Brohm isn't a good player, perhaps he is the best, but it is awful arrogant to suggest that it isn't even a topic worth discussing.
