There is one school that I know of where most of the teachers wear t-shirts and jeans almost everyday. Pretty bad IMO.

I don't really see the problem. Ten years later and I couldn't tell you how most of my teachers in H.S. dressed so I don't think it made much of an impression.

If you wanted to be treated like a professional, and paid like a professional, you should appear that way. Jeans and gym shoes do not promote that appearance.

I was down there recently and I didn't see every male teacher wearing a tie.

 

Could be allowed to wear a collared shirt, too. I almost positive Friday was jeans day, though.

I think the norm for most teachers these days are khakis and either a polo or button down shirt. Rarely do you see a shirt and tie. Face it.... Times have changed.

I graduated a long time ago. Male teachers wore ties M-Th and polo type shirts on Fridays - no jeans. Lady's wore dress or skirt M-Th and slacks on Friday.

 

I was at my old high school 2 years ago for a visit. The men don't have to wear ties anymore. But they still have to wear a button up dress shirt M-Th and still no jeans. For the ladies, dresses and skirts are encouraged but not mandatory, dress slacks only. It is a public high school, albeit in a conservative district.

 

I don't think a teacher should have to wear a tie, but I don't think they should ever wear a t-shirt.

 

Times have changed a lot. Heck, I remember my mom making me wear a tie to fly on a plane. She said you had to dress appropriately.

My teachers always wore shirts and ties... of course, the students did too in Catholic school. I'm a believer in the idea that male teachers should wear shirts and ties and female teachers something of corresponding professionalism, whatever that might be. But you can also put me in the camp of people that believe most professional dress has become far too relaxed. *Wearing a navy blue suit right now.*

Church attire has changed drastically. But we are talking about people in a workplace here. Pilots still wear uniforms and Priests still wear robes.

To me, the quality of our teachers is of much greater importance than what they wear. As I said earlier, I don't really remember what many teachers wore when I was in high school. But I do remember one who wore jeans and a t-shirt regularly. He was also one of the three best teachers I had, which is why I remember.

I wear jogging pants or sweat suits most days, as I actually play sports/lift/run with at least one class a day. I wear jeans and khakis occasionally.

 

Suit and tie or coaching shirt/slacks for ballgames, depending on who/where/how far we play.

Priests still wear robes.

 

Barely. But I won't even get started on the DRASTIC erosion of priestly attire...
