I think personally he is the Best player in NKY and the region, and by being rated #4 for a player of his caliber that is underrated, there is no way that there are three better players than Penick in the 9th region & in NKY. Do you honestley believe there are three players better than him(2 Juniors) in the region, he could be the top D-I prospect in Ky. So IMO he is underrated! :thumb:

First, what makes him the best player in the region? B/C he is tall? B/C he can dunk? I really like Dan and would go to war for him, but he is not the best player in NKY. Actually, I will say he is not even the best big man in NKY. He is a forward trapped in a big body. Can he start on every team in NKY? Maybe. The coaches here have been watching him play Varsity since his freshman year...I believe. Kyle Schmidt, and Braden McCain from Campbell County. Both play outstanding defense.

No knocks on Penick or Campbell County in this opinion, but while Campbell is a senior dominated, much improved team, their strength is on the perimeter, not in the middle. The fact his team got blasted by 41, and he only scored 15 against an average interior defense; doesn't sound like the best D-1 prospect in the state?? From the reports I heard on the game, he looked uninspired and rather common; and was shut down primarilly by 6'3" Marcus Clines, a small forward. Not what I'd expect from a 6'9" stud, whose team obviously lacks scoring options!! As an old coach of mine used to say, "you can't win many games, or feed your family with Potential".

You can throw Shawn Thompson in there from Lawrence Co. Had he been there last year I think they win the Region. His first game back in a Dawg uniform vs the #1 Ranked team in the Region saw him put up around 30+ points 20+ boards and 10+ assists!!!!!!! Not to shabby for a guy nobody talks about.

Ludlow doesn't lack scoring options, they have Chase King and Jarrett Rouse on the perimeter and they can shoot the 3 pretty well.

I honestly believe that both Daniel Day and Quentin Morgan are both underated in the state of KY. I believe either of the two should have got the #1 spot in the 14th Region Rankings. I also believe them being overlooked in the Lexington Hearld's Top 25 players will motivate them greatly. Both of these kids averaged 17 ppg and 8 rpg last season on a regional runner-up team full of underclassmen. I may be biased being from Leslie but thats just my opinion.

 

Also another player who I believe is one of the top point guards in Eastern Kentucky who has recieved some credit but will be better known at the end of the year is Hazards Justin Hicks. The kid can play.

 

Amen on Hicks. This kid is a tough competitor who really came into his own as a sophomore PG last year and will just be even better this season. VERY underrated! Good call!

6'1" freshman Jonathan Ferguson of Elliott Co. (16th Region) He's started all three of Elliott's varsity games and their 2-1. He's playing the foward pos. and averaging 19.6 ppg,and 7 boards. Very underrated!!!!

I agree with stick1, Shawn Thompson is probably the most underated player around. He sat out last year but he is making himself know loud and clear this year.

I dont believe Matt Thomas is underrated. He has the ability. But he isnt a team player. I think that will come with time. But he had to ice his elbow after every game last year.

Knowles at GRC eventhough he doesn't get any pub is one of the best point guards in the state.

Dan Penick was ranked the #4 best player by the coaches in the NKY pre-season top ten. How is that underrated? He also has signed to play at a D-1 school if I heard correctly. Underrated kids don't get that kind of attention. I am a big Penick fan and wish him a fantastic season, but there is no way he is underrated.

If he was ranked then he was most likely not an underrated player. What school D1 has he signed with?

Terry Davis from pendleton is most deffinetley an underated player

I think that Crum #5 from Sheldon Clark Should be in the top point guards!...He has improved so much since last season! I don't think there are many people who can run with him!
