NKY POY: One Month to Go

Featured Replies

From Ryan Ernst blog in the Cincinnati Enquirer:

NewCath senior Jake Giesler appears to be the frontrunner for the Enquirer boys’ basketball player of the year award, but things are far from over. Boone County‘s Trevan Brown is averaging 20.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game against an awfully tough schedule, and Scott guard Kellen Smith is probably the most dynamic player in the area. More than likely, it will come down to the postseason.

I don't know what his handle is, but I have no doubt that Ernst regularly visits BGP. He often posts comments on his blog that touch on popular threads on here.

Could be, or maybe he shares similar thoughts with all of us watching the games, as he is the KY prep writer for The Enquirer.

I would move Brown to number 2. And the gap between 1 and 2-5 is very big IMO. If Geisler doesn't win by a wide margin, the voters should be ashamed.

I also would say that Trevan Brown is a pretty clear choice at #2 for me. He is having an incredible season and leading a Boone team that lost Montgomery to a good year.

Do you really think this is in doubt? Geisler was pre season choice for POY and has been great all year long. NCC is without a doubt the surprise team of the season and it is because of him. I just don't see any possible argument for someone other than Geisler.

3 excellent posts VOR!!!!

Gielser is living up to (and surpasing) the Pre Season expectations. No doubt he is POY.

I also agree that Trevan Brown is #2. He has really led the Rebels to a very good year and especially with Montgomery going down. When, and I don't know, was the last time a Rebel basketball player averaged more than 20 points a game? I'd say it has been awhile! I'm glad to see Brown finally getting some love!!! In my opinion, he has been under utilized at Boone for the past couple years.

LOL, Ernst at least has attended one SK game this season, lol. I keep a spot open for him next to me, and a popcorn and an extra coke, but he never shows.

Brown is averaging 10.5 rebounds per game...

I'm of the opinion that whoever leads their team farther in their respective Regional Tournament s should get the nod. They are all so close statistically.

What if their team goes farther, maybe even wins the region, but the player flops during that period and numbers are not great?

Then I would take that into consideration but I am under the assumption that these consistently good players will lead their teams and one of them will have a GREAT tourney setting themselves apart from the others.

In the case of Geisler, Brown and Thelen, if they flop I highly doubt that their teams will go anywhere except home for the year.
