Kentucky 67 South Carolina 58

Impressive win for Kentucky. I thought SC had a lot of energy and the Cats squelched it. Darrin Horn looked bumfuzzled.

I'll go ahead and say it. Polson is more valuable than Jon Hood and to me it's not even close. Polson doesn't really mess up when he gets minutes. I can't say the same for Hood.

Considering this is basically the first game where Polson actually played some minutes that mattered. I don't know how you can come up what that opinion already. He did a great job just doing his role when he was in there for that game, I agree. However we have seen him only have this one game where he got minutes that actually mattered, so very hard to form an opinion like that already on him.

I am not sure that is a good way of putting it, but I will say Polson brings just as much to the table as Jon Hood. The only thing Hood does is catch the ball along the baseline, takes about three dribbles towards the top of the key and dishes it back out via a safe pass, then heads back where he came from and runs the entire baseline. Every once in a while a loose ball comes his way and he will attempt a fade away jumper to only have it thrown back in his face. In other "can't play worth a darn" news, that was wonderful footwork by Vargas in drawing the traveling call.

In my years of watching college basketball, I can remember many teams that only went 6 deep. But I am not sure I have ever seen a drop in talent as much between player 6 and players 7-10.

Couldn't agree more. Hood is about as useful as to UK basketball as Nate Knight.

You make good points, but the logic could also be turned around to say that Hood has been given ample opportunities to contribute (when compared with Polson) and has yet to do so. I don't like hating on UK players, but Hood's just never going to make significant contributions to this team IMO.

I'd never really thought about that, but you're right on the money. Duke won it all last year not going deep, but it is that talent drop that is so noticeable at UK. We've got four end-of-the-bench guys on a 10-man roster.

You've cracked me up...my side hurts!

Its been no secret that Kentucky has used a small rotation to win their games. However, some of these players that aren't playing may be beginning to think when will they ever play? I speak specifically of Jon Hood in this case. He is getting some minutes but most of them very unimportant/mop-up. Will there be a chance of him transferring given the fact who Kentucky is bringing in next year with another stellar freshman class? I also ask the same thing of Vargas. With next years class, I just don't see Vargas seeing the floor. We won't have a "true" center but the fact is we will have a bit more added depth to use.

Any chance these things happen? I think Vargas is gone after this year and I'm 50/50 on Hood since he is a Kentucky boy and most likely wants to stay in the state (just a guess there).
