The point is that this guy wouldn't have showed up on one. To have one is fine but to think it would have solved this problem is wrong from what I have read on it.

I think everyone, or at least most rational people, know that the violent and hateful rhetoric needs to be toned down by both sides, but it shouldn't have taken an incident like this to make that apparent.

Unfortunately, it gets people on both sides elected and it won't till the voters quit electing people that use this to get elected.

The written and spoken word have power regardless of its origin. No question.

 

However, in this particular case we have violence against a politician. I probably listen to a wider variety of music than most people in their 40s/50s (sadly approaching) and I don't recall much in the form of music that could possibly be linked to violence against politicians. The only tenuous link you can make between the spoken word and violence against pols is that of the talking heads on cable.

I don't see where politicians are being segregated any more than any other man woman or child in this country. The violence presented in film, televison, books, music, video games, etc. is what it is. Granted 99% of reasonably stable humans are able to sort real from imaginary... just as they are able to do with targets on a map or over the entry of their favorite big box store. If the point however, is the possible effect of words, pictures and music on unstable minds, then we need to pull our heads out of the sand and realize we're saturated in violent messages from every angle. You could take Palin, Limbaugh and the worst elements of the Tea Party completely out of the picture, and it wouldn't even be a drop in the ocean.

That was the post I was referring to. If it wasn't aimed at pointing blame on Palin or the right, what was the purpose of it's inclusion in the thread?

Again, the bigger issue is that there's no reason to not have a national database of people that should not obtain firearms. Of course there will be people who shouldn't obtain firearms not qualify for the list. That doesn't invalidate the need for a list.

I figured you got on a roll there.

He got pulled over three hours before he killed due to running a redlight, he got off with a warning.

 

This stuff will not end, people kill each other, they have done it since the beginning of time. I wish we had a answer, a cure all. When a child is involved it just sadens me to no end.

The longer Mr. Obama remains silent, rather than speaking up to calm emotions and caution against rushing to judgment as he did immediately following the Fort Hood shooting, the more credibility he loses with many of us that actually see both sides of the picture.

I have yet to hear or read anything the President has said regarding the accusations of the Pima County Sheriff or Paul Krugman and others that immediately attempted to tie this flake's actions to Palin, Limbaugh, Fox, the Tea Party, etc.

 

He came out almost immediately in the wake of Fort Hood to urge people not to rush to judgment, or equate the actions of one Muslim Radical to all Muslims.

 

The fact that he remained silent as long as he did in this event speaks volumes.

I wonder how the family is taking all the cheering. Doesn't sound much like a memorial services. More like a pep rally. If I just lost my father, mother, child, etc, etc, I really don't know how I would react to people cheering around me.

 

I know most of it was for thanking the people that served heroically, just saying I wasn't expecting so much cheering at a mermorial service.

Again, the shooting was on Saturday and he made a statement at the latest, on Sunday, so he did not remain silent ON WHAT IS IMPORTANT long. Also, I hope that you are watching the memorial, because he addressed the issue you are discussing, without mentioning specific people's names.
