I liked the point that was made by someone that if you think it is worse now, what about our "great" Founding Fathers who would just take pistols and go duel and kill each other.

I never said that he said anything about conclusions/rush to judgment. I said that he concentrated on what was important here...the loss of life the prayers for the injured. He did not say anything about the ugly partisan fingerpointing of either side. I think that we'd all do well to do our part to not make any of this political and not attack each other, as he mentioned tonight.

I think he showed a better judgement in how to handle the event from how he handled Fort Hood to how he handled this event.

I agree 100% that the most important thing in this scenario is the care and attention and prayers for the victims and their families. First and foremost, without a doubt.

 

What I am personally hurt and angered by are the political hacks who literally in the hours immediately following this horrific shooting, with victims literally fighting for their lives, could not wait to begin pointing fingers and casting blame. Add in the fact that they had not one shred of evidence to substantiate their accusations, they were merely leaping with a predetermined narrative in an attempt to score political points from this tragic event.

 

Whether these individuals were republican. democrat, independent or otherwise makes their actions no less despicable.

 

As a conservative Christian, I am tired of seeing my faith mocked, derided and scorned without shame... while Muslims are treated with kid gloves. I have nothing personally against Muslims in general, but when 19 of them hijack airplanes and fly into our buildings killing 3,000 of my countrymen, or a whacked out Muslim Army Psychiatrist shouts "Allah Akbar!" as he shoots and kills 17 unarmed American soldiers and wounds 30 others I'm considerably less tolerant toward those specific Muslims.

 

I have no problem with our President telling us to not rush to judgment, to wait until all the facts are in. That is sound advice... even when it appears cut and dried.

 

My problem is when my President declines to offer the same sage advice to members of his own party when they are casting false allegations at Limbaugh, Beck, Palin and the Tea Party... as the Pima County Sheriff has done, and Paul Krugman in the NY Times on Saturday.

As a nonconservative American (who happens to be Christian) I am strong enough to stand against those that mock Christianity. As a young teacher with a classroom full of high school juniors, I was shocked, then saddened and then devastated by the terrorist actions of 19 individuals that attacked Americans (Christians, Jews, Muslims, atheists, alike) on September 11th. As the daughter and niece of military men, I was sickened by the attack on Fort Hood. In neither case did I feel the inclination to blame other Muslims for those actions.

 

I also remember the day in 1995 that I walked out of my dorm as a college junior over to Downing University Center at WKU and glanced up at a TV monitor to see the terrible attack that a former military man committed against our country in Oklahoma City. It never occurred to me to blame all military veterans, or those that had political inclinations similar to McVeigh, for this event.

 

I don't remember the specific timeline for what President Obama said or even the words that he used about the shooting at Fort Hood. I also don't think that Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, etc., need the President to speak for them. Each of those individuals have their own airtime to address their attacks, as Palin did today. As the matter of fact, I wouldn't expect the president to specifically speak for any individual. It seems to me that he addressed the issue quite well tonight and shifted the focus to what it should be. I didn't think it was cut and dried. I thought it was quite lively and active. You said that he should advise his own party, but again, you do realize that this is not a one way road, don't you? Some have even blamed Obama himself.

I think our culture has been progressively torn from the spiritual foundations and morals upon which it was founded. I think there are plenty of places one could attribute blame. We are innundated with images of unspeakable violence and an increasing indifference for the sanctity of life. Our so called leaders appear to have forgotten how to genuinely lead, and seem more preoccupied with power and personal gain.

 

To put it very simply, there is plenty of blame to go around. It serves no purpose whatsoever to inflame passions by pointing fingers at others one may disagree with, without evidence at all, only to do what you say you're against others doing. (I speak not of you personally, but those in office and the media. )

As for today, I am still trying figure out why this rose to the level of a Presidential eulogy. This was not an attack on our military by an Islamic terrorist as in Ft. Hood. It was not the loss a Space Shuttle crew. It was not 9/11. It was an act of senseless violence by an unstable individual. This just does not seem to rise to a level worthy of Presidential focus at this level.
