January 8, 201115 yr There is no reason people can't walk outside. I'm not sure where you live but close to where I live one bar/restaurant and maybe two are smoke free. Then go to those two bars. If everyone starts doing that, more will have similar establishments. You can easily see that especially where bars are concerned, drinking and smoking go hand in hand. Why go to a place that's that way and why expect them to have change for you? If the customer base dictates it, they'll change on their own without being forced to by the government.

The irresponsible smoker who pollutes the air everyone around him/her needs to be told that it is unacceptable. since these days it is politically incorrect to do that on an individual basis, the law should protect me from being harmed by another person's selfish choice to pollute a public place.

Oh the absurdity of the few who think they have to have everything their way and their way only. No, that's not even comparable, I stand corrected on the worst analogy in this thread. YOU don't need to have ALL restaurants smoke-free and THEY don't need to have ALL restaurants allow smoking. Why can't you all be reasonable?

Why can't you all be reasonable? I think the only unreasonable people are people that choose to smoke in a public building. If the law changes I will be extremely happy. I see your side of it and I agree with you on about 95% of the things on the political forum. Smoking in public places isn't one of them. I still don't understand how it's someones right to endanger other peoples lives by smoking in a buiding. If you are going to say that there isn't enough evidence suggesting that it's harmful would be the only way I agreed with you. As it is we can just agree to disagree.

I just don't see why we can't have options for both, but that's OK.
January 8, 201115 yr You sure are passionate about your way being right to complain about others thinking their way is right. No, I'm just tired of some thinking they have to have it ALL their way only. It's a rather childish approach IMO, as I've pointed out there is just no reason you or anyone else has to have all places smoke free. There are viable solutions, but some of you just don't care and will only have it your way. That's one reason I say America is just a shell of it's once great self. BTW, my wife and I just ate at a local restaurant that has a smoking section and low and behold neither of us caught as much as a whiff of cigarette smoke the entire time we were there and it was very busy.
January 9, 201115 yr Weak, weak, weak! The owners of businesses are already required to follow many laws that are in the best interest of the general public that they serve and the employees who work in those businesses. Smoking bans across the nation are becoming law of the land due to the know and proven health hazards of breathing second hand smoke! Strange, but I have never met a smoker who hopes their child smokes one day or demands that his child be allowed to smoke in their classroom or that the teacher in their child's classroom, should be allowed to smoke while teaching their child. Haha wow, I'm not even going to bother because you're not even talking about the same topic as us. Since when do public schools have class rooms in privately owned restaurants? Oh that's right they don't, so your argument isn't just weak, weak, WEAK, but also DUMB, DUMB, DUMB and POINTLESS......

If it's a privately owned water way that doesn't pollute another public stream then sure they can do whatever the hell they want with it(they typically call those lakes or ponds). Why is it so dang hard for you people to recognize that we're talking about private property, the owners can also refuse to serve you. So many people on here think it's their god given right to walk on to someone else's property and tell them how to regulate it. I guess you all want the government to tell you what to wear in the morning too, well I don't, this is just stupid on so many levels that this argument is still even going on. For about the 15000 time, I'm not a smoker, I hate smoke, it is disgusting. It's not about being a smoker or non smoker, it's about business owners choice and their target customer base, they should be able to make that decision and not have it made for them thru a smoking ban.

But we're not talking about public places, schools, federal building etc. SURE I'm all for those being smoke free, hell I'm even all for every where being smoke free, but I don't think a PRIVATELY owned restaurant being forced to make it smoke free, not unless they're going to make smoking illegal like marijuana. That's the only way I think it would be right to make a state wide smoking ban.
January 9, 201115 yr Author Making smoking illegal... now there is a pretty good idea. If the business owners would have really made smoking and non smoking sections more separated than a half-wall with some plants on top where the smoke still filled the entire room then this type of ban wouldn't be as supported. I could live with some stringent requirements for smoking sections that included proper ventelation, full wall separation and not having the non smokers walk through the smoking section to get to a table. But I would think that would be fairly expensive for business owners.
