NCC showed the rest of the teams the formula for Holmes. You sit in a zone and let them shoot from the outside while cutting off an penetration. Nicely coached game by Grant.

I was not impressed with either team tonight. Holmes stood around on offense and they allowed Geisler to get to the basket with ease.

Geisler pretty much owned this game with his offense and defensive abilities. Holmes needs to get more ball movement on offense, they just dribble around until they see a seam and then they try and penetrate. Everyone knows that you beat a zone by passing the ball and finding the seams by moving the zone. Ball movement is the key and they settled for taking a seam off the dribble and then throwing up shots.

I was impressed with the NCC defense there in the last 2 min of the game, it clearly won it for them. NCC needs to develop their bench players though if they want to make a run. They clearly have a two man show going on out there in Geisler and Hightchew. Beuter, although just a soph has a great shot and Ryan looks like he can stroke it as well. Miller and Doyle need to be the designated defense/rebound guys to support Geisler. Outside of that I dont see where they played anyone else except Dupont the other Soph guard there in the last minute of play. He did a nice job for them scooping up the rejection by Geisler and calling a timeout to keep possession.

Congrats to NCC for a tough fought signature win against the Bulldogs, and for also showing the 9th that they've got something to say too in all of this. Nkysports.com did a nice job of calling the game and they seem to be getting better at it. It was a bit annoying however when one of the announcers in the 4th period kept insisting that Geisler was fouled before his shots in a couple of 'and one' situations when he was clearly in the act of shooting. All in all a nice game. Good luck to the Breds against Fern Creek in the finals. They'll certainly have their hands full in that one. Go Breds :thumb:

Geisler with two huge blocks. NCC did a great job in their zone, Holmes doesn't appear to have anyone that will kill you from downtown.

Hayes can shoot it but other than that I didnt see any threats. Hayes is only 6' so as long as you have a long kid out there on his side you should be able to prevent his shot. I have seen Holmes be affective against zones when they pass the ball to the middle, attack and then kick it two the baseline guys going to the goal. They did that a couple times but decided to go for the short corner and take shots from there. Its a tough angle to take a shot from and they would have been better off flashing the opposit block guy high for that pass and a 10 foot jumper. Ball movement is key though. NCC did a nice job in that zone of covering the shooters and stopping most of the penetration.

Jake Geisler is as athletic a big man that I can remember in the 9th not named Pittman.

Mike Brock and Justin Doellman called. They disagree.

^They both just called me and were asking me if this was serious. No offense to Geisler but those guys were D1 hoopsters.

Did Brock finish at EKU? I know Doelman had a nice career at Xavier.

You gotta give Geisler credit though, he is a difference maker and catches/scores 90% of what is thrown down to him on the block. I wouldnt say he is as athletic as Brock or Doellman but he gets the job done.

I don't think he is athletic...just big and stays underneath the basket

Is Geisler the best big man in N. Ky.? I am sure the CCH crowd will argue for Thelen. Boone Co. might say Brown. Ryle has Stauffer. Dixie has Pike. I am not sure anyone of those, or anyone else, are better than Geisler.
