Significant Winter Storm to Hit Kentucky [ATTACH]33069[/ATTACH] To those in the snow to ice storm band: From Kentucky Weather Center: - Just to the south of the all snow band will be an area that should get in on a period of very heavy snow to start before switching over to freezing rain that would then continue for the rest of the storm. Exactly when this change happens will determine how much snow or ice this area gets. Right now... anywhere from 1-4" of snow may fall before the switch to ice which should then add up to .25" or so. If the snow does not last long... then this region may see closer to .50" of ice. I am concerned for this region for the fact it may get some heavy snow to accumulate... it would then be coated in ice. That would make for a lot of weight on power lines and trees if that is the case.

December 15, 201015 yr Author I just checked the Kentucky Mesonet site for Madison County. It says the temperature here is -0.
December 15, 201015 yr Author NKY has a different NWS (Wilmington, Oh) whereas CKY and EKY go with the NWS out of Louisville and Jackson. That is correct. Central Kentucky's weather advisories come from Louisville and Eastern Kentucky's is from Jackson. That explains sometimes the difference in the timing of when the advisories or warnings are issued or not.
December 15, 201015 yr That's about what we got. Depends on where you are, but alot of NKY had 4-5 inches, more the further east you went.
December 15, 201015 yr Wow, just looked at the latest from the site NWO has linked, and it's looking like NKY is looking at getting anywhere from 6-12 inches of snow, but no ice...I guess that's better than 5-7 inches with ice...:idunno:
