THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOUISVILLE HAS ISSUED A WINTER

STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH

THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

 

* TIMING: LIGHT SNOW WILL BEGIN TO FALL EARLY WEDNESDAY ACROSS

SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY. EXPECT SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN TO START

FALLING THERE IN THE AFTERNOON...WITH THE MIXED PRECIPITATION

SPREADING NORTH INTO CENTRAL KENTUCKY AND SOUTHERN INDIANA

OVERNIGHT. THE BULK OF THE ACCUMULATING PRECIPITATION IS

EXPECTED TO END THURSDAY MORNING AS THE STORM SYSTEM PULLS

MOISTURE OUT TO THE EAST.

 

* MAIN IMPACT: A QUARTER OF AN INCH OR MORE OF FREEZING RAIN IS

EXPECTED TO FALL ON ALREADY SNOW COVERED GROUNDS. THE RESULTING

ICE WILL CAUSE DANGEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS. IN ADDITION...A

SIGNIFICANT COATING OF ICE ON POWER LINES...TREES...AND OTHER

SUSCEPTIBLE SURFACES IS LIKELY.

Good Tuesday morning... again. After writing my original update... I stayed up to get a better look at some of the newer computer model runs and decided it was time to upgrade to a WINTER STORM ALERT for late Wednesday through Friday morning for the entire state. We will likely be facing significant amounts of snow and ice accumulation during this time.

 

After reviewing all the data... I am strongly leaning toward a fairly moisture laden event that can yield a lot of ice and snow to a lot of people. This could turn into a dangerous storm before all is said and done. I will try to nail down the specifics of how much snow and ice will fall and where with an update early this afternoon.

This one has me a little worried because of the chance of significant icing.

I forgot to add that this if for all of Eastern, Central and Northern Kentucky. I suggest that people have an alternate source for heating in case you loose power.

You're welcome. We had no heat for 6 days during the last ice storm. We eventually stayed in a motel for a couple of days.

We were lucky in that last storm. Our side of the street had power, but across the street was out several days.

We were the opposite. The apartment building behind our house had power we didn't.

I rechecked and the watch is not for extreme Northern Kentucky. This is around the Cincinnati area.

I have a sump pump that needs to have to power to it at all times especially if there is going to be rain/ice. Looks like the purchase of a generator is in my near future.

I need a couple days of recovery from this one before moving on to the next...

I've read that there might be an Ice Storm Warning issued for Central Kentucky sometime this afternoon. That is when the afternoon updates come out.
