Far and away Cal. Cal didn't stick around years after he should've hung um up solely to keep the streak alive, like Favre has.

Favre has been one of the lower level QBs in the league for 4 of the past 6 seasons...He had a good season last year, but choked when it mattered most. He should have retired a long time ago.

Basically both are "off the charts" unbelievable!! Ripken's is soooooo long, and Farve's equally impressive due to the physical nature of pro football.

 

My vote for most "impressive" or should I say dubious streak, goes to Mike Brown, who's made major league $$'s for 20+ years, fielding a minor league team!! So many suckers, so little time!! :D

Because of the brutality of the sport Favre's is probably more impressive but I'd give all kinds of body parts to play in a small percentage of Cal's games.

 

I do think some discount how much of a grind a MLB season is but there are way more freak things that can happen in the NFL to keep you out multiple games. On the flip side, Favre seems to play a perfect position, in football terms, for longevity and safety. Guys like Marino, Montana, and even P Manning come to mind. They were good enough to avoid lot's of big hits by being smart and getting rid of the ball.

Lets see a QB leading a team to the NFC Championship his last year with the Packers, then 9 and 7 with the Jets, then NFC Championship with the Vikings last year. Sure sounds like a guy who couldn't play and should have hung it up.

 

This is the first year with Favre that it looks like he should have hung it up. Which if he would have came back after this bad season, then you would have had a point. Cal Ripken probably kept playing more to keep the streak alive than Favre, and Ripken could get away with playing a half inning and the streak continuing. When did we ever see Favre just go in to start, and then come out?

Ripken's streak is not even a games started streak is it? Its just games played, so all he had to do was play half an inning. Favre's streak was games played, and STARTED. He was just not out there for a few snaps and then left. Ripken sometimes could continue his streak without even breaking a sweet.

Favre got hit a lot even when he threw the ball away to avoid a sack. He also hung in the pocket and got drilled right after waiting for a play to develop and then making an amazing throw. He also didn't get moved to punter to keep his career going...
