2010 Finals Attendance

How about Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington ? Numbers across the board would go up except for maybe the 6A crowd- JMO.

They do not have turf. Every year we have to endure that suggestion, and somehow every year people forget the reason it is not in Lexington.

Why is the criteria they must have turf. 90% of the games the week before the finals were not on Turf.

Would the KHSAA have enough cash to pay for repairs if they were needed after six games in potentially poor weather?

Absolutely none of those games from the week before were played in the same location as another game. There were six games that took place on the same field this week in two days. Sure, it didn't rain this year, but I'd like you to imagine what it would be like if it rained a couple of days leading up to the championships and day of in Lexington. Can you imagine what the field would be like by the end of it? Competitively, that's a nightmare for the teams that have to play on it.

And that's not to mention the cost of repairing the field in that scenario, as NEERFAN pointed out. Who foots that bill?

Mapquest has it at 160 miles

I'm suprised by that, looks closer on the map but apparently no easy way to get from point A to B.

Point taken:isurrender: I didn't think about all the teams playing on it over 2 days. Though, I can't remember the last time it rained during state finals. I do remember some very cold, windy days but even then, all those teams could tear a field up.

2010 drew 47,759 fans, which is over 10,000 more than last year which featured an X/T final in 6A. It's 13,000 more than the last year in Louisville.

2010 is also 1,100 more fans than 2007, which also featured an X/T final in Louisville along with normal heavyweights Beechwood, LCA, LExCath, and Bowling Green.

So much for the arguments

1.) moving the finals to Bowling Green will hurt attendance

2.) the finals won't draw fans if there is no T/X final in 6A.

Friday night all night in 2008

While it was cold today, Louisville and Lexington would have had snow

Is the 6A game doomed to always be the last one of the day, whether Friday or Saturday? I would love to play in the Saturday afternoon slot once.

I, personally, love the finals in BG. I played ball there so it's nostalgic for me. It may hurt attendance, but I don't care. It's a much more intimate setting, and the fans aren't swallowed by the venue. I say keep it in BG.

With six classes, I do hate that it it's done at 8pm on Saturday night. I loved the old 4pm start time, what if we played Th - Sat?
