No question about the difficult decision and that's why his hair went gray so fast. However, we had inspectors in there and they weren't finding any signs of WMDs or the capacity to produce them.

 

I believe during 12 years, Saddam Hussein broke 16 UN regulations that had to do with WMD's.

 

The fact is, the inspectors of the UN were not doing their job right...I think these issues helped the president decisions on what to do.

History judges you on the decisions you make. Sometimes history doesn’t judge you on the absence of a decision. And I believe Saddam Hussein in the Middle East today, if he were there in power he would be enriched, he’d be emboldened. He would still have the capacity to make weapons of mass destruction,

When Saddam used them in 1988, yes, it would justify the lives and the expense. And like you, I'm not the type that is eager to send troops into harm's way. If this type of action had been taken when he used them, people would have been more understanding.

 

And again, if GWB is to be believed, the intelligence did reveal that Saddam had WMD's.

From what I hear when he interviewed with Oprah, she was trying to get him to comment on the current president and he refused. Saying that he has a hard enough job and he does not need his opinion. GW hated it when Carter would bash him.

 

Carter is a bitter old man - bottom line. His behavior the past few years is unthinkable for a former president when looked at from a historical perspective.

 

There are some really interesting things coming out about the man now from Secret Service agents who worked for him. He played the every-day-man peanut farmer role in public, but it sounds like it was different story behind closed doors.

I just feel that if a commander-in-chief makes the decision to send our troops into harm's way, he has the obligation to be right in his reasoning to do so. In this case, he wasn't.

There was plenty of information out there casting doubt on the existence of WMD ... the Bush administration chose to ignore it.
