BUT, St. Henry was leading that game before big man Schmidt went out. I've spoke to Mike several times since then and even interviewed him foher a sports marketing firm that I was working for when he applied for a position and he'll be the first to say proudly that the Cru' wins that game if he doesn't get hurt.

Let me clarify my last (harsh) statement.

 

My original post was to dispel the story that he attained all-American status. It obviously doesn't mean he wasn't successful.

He finished his sophomore season top 20 in scoring and top 5 in 3pt%...About 1300 kids compete in at the juco Div 2 level, so i'd say he more than lived up to the hype:thumb: Gotcha clyde I already posted...

Not sure how you can say he didn't live up to the hype? As stated before, there are 1300 kids that compete at the JUCO level and Rice was one of the 30 selected for preseason all american.

 

Just because he didn't end up an all american at the end of the year, doesn't mean he wasn't one of the best in the country at that level.

 

His accomplishments over those two years at Columbus St speak for themself...including leading his team to the JUCO National title his first year. Anyone who followed him his second year knows that he put up some huge numbers, including a 27 point, 18 rebound performance to advance them in the national tourney.

I stated that Greg was PRESEASON ALL AMERICAN...never said anything about him being apart of the final AA team.

I thought this thread was about teams not winning the 9th region title. St Henry in fact did win the title. If we're talking about teams not winning the state title that St. Henry team will fall way down the list from the 9th region IMO.

96' Holmes team was undefeated vs. NKY schools and there starting lineup were 4 year starters. They were ranked in the top 5 in state all year. Upset by HC in Regionals after beating them by 20 and 30 that season. Mike Flynn's final season as coach.

Bernard Evans had the greatest block that I've ever seen in my life. He blocked a shot against NewCath in the Districts. It was on a break away layup and he swatted it so hard that it hit the wall behind the stands at Bellevue. It was awesome.

I believe the 86-87 Newcath team ended up 28-4, but lost to Highlands in the regional finals. Newcath was ranked #1 in the region and in the top 10 in the state all season. I don't think they lost to a 9th region team all year until the finals.

They were loaded with Sandfoss, Jacobs, Pangallo, Albrink, Robinson. Didnt Blasingame hit a shot from the wing at the buzzer to win that 9th Region title game?

Already referred to but NewCath of the 2000/01 season with Ronnie Dawn as a senior and also Highlands of 05/06 with Vories, Guidugli, etc... that lost to CovCath in the semis. Can also argue for 03/04 Boone with Rasso and McFarland that lost to CovCath in the finals when Rasso had the wrist issues.

The Highlands 05/06 team was very good and they ran into Aaron Noll from CovCath that decided to have a career night during the Region dropping like 35 on them when he never broke 20 during the season. Vories/Guidugli/Johnson/Smith/Eaton were fun to watch.

And both of those team benefitted from Holmes self destructing after Holmes beat Highlands at Highlands.

 

That Highlands teams had them down 13 heading in to the 4th quarter and 7 or 8 with 4 mins to go and Holmes came storming back and won by 5. Holmes outscored them by 18 in the last 8 mins of the game.
