What is proper protocol regarding music on the PA system during a game?

Featured Replies

Should music or other noise be played over the PA system during a game while teams are at the line preparing for the snap?

Apparently if the home team has the ball you stop the music right as they approach the line. If the visiting team has the ball, you play right up until the snap.

It could be worse, they crowd could have cow bells ask UK

I think we all know the true rule! But if your Ballard and your the home team, the band plays while the visitors are on offense.

I recently saw this at a Northern Ky Game whenever the home team had a defensive stand going Hells bells was played straight through the snap with no consideration to play calling at the line of srimmage by the opponent.

:thumb::D I think we saw the same game.

I think people cry over this too much! Not knowing all situations I am not going to saying everyone is crying, but a band playing (or music) during the play calling or snap I really don't care! However a PA guy announcing the game is wrong, as he is also telling the players for the home team everything he is seeing as well.

This has no effect what so ever on the outcome. Players only care about getting to their assignments and really only hear the music when there is a time out or a touchdown. If Highlands wants to complain about this is how they had their streak ended then maybe we should address Ft. Thomas junkies running into visiting players on purpose, players not having enough room to be properly examined by a doctor on the sideline, or just the fact that HHS fans throw objects on the field(which is already in terrible condition) and possibly have a home or visiting player trip on. Learn how to accept a loss. I respect it doesn't happen that much but, the PA... Really? I actually can't wait for that guy from Independence to get on this thread and laugh.

It doesn't matter if some like it or some don't, music should NEVER be played during either team's possession. Once the referee blows the whistle for a series to start, ALL music should not be played whether it be over the sound system or by the band. And has been said above, the PA announcer is someone who should NOT be trying to be the local play-by-play or color commentator...that is what the rdio/tv personalities are for...this is one of the main things that I don't miss about high school athletics.

First of all I don't think anyone really cares about the PA but it is interesting to which schools do what. I have not been to a Kentucky high school game this year so this is not directed at any school. Playing music unevenly between teams could effect the game. Ex. when the home team is on offense they don't play music during the huddle but they do when the away team is in the huddle.

Not 1 person said that was an excuse that 1 team lost to another. I have no problem with your crying about not having enough room on the away sideline at Highlands, feel free to raise the money to pay for the fix. I am sure the donation would be appreciated. I also think its funny attempting to call out Ft. Thomas people for "running into visiting players on purpose." What do you think, there are people that walk by and go out of their way to run into players? Rediculous. I have been to many Highlands games and have not seen anyone throw anything on the field, so it is not a common practice. And do you really think people are throwing stuff down so a player can trip over it? No. There is plenty of room on the sideline to be examined by a doctory. You act like the people from Ft. Thomas are a bunch of jerks and treat visiting opponents like crap.

Highlands and Ryle seem to me to have started a friendly mini-rivalry. I don't think any team has much to complain about others. Now I have heard rumors of some things that happened the day after the Ryle SK game, but it's most likely not true.

One last thing about accepting losses, why? Thats why Highlands is good every year, they don't accept losses. Rather they use it as a learning experience and are better from it.

Lighten up, Francis. It was irritating more than anything else. I don't think you'll find anyone on here claiming that it was the reason for the loss on Thursday.

Sounds bush league to me if the band or PA is playing the music like that. If we're talking about the HHS-Ryle game, I didn't even notice it so I doubt the players did.

I won't act like people treat the opposing team like crap from the Fort as Rob put it. However, it is tough to argue that you have problems with funds when you are taking charter buses to local games. I have a feeling that sideline issue could be fixed if it was deemed necessary.

So, do you move the school or the stands? What do you think it costs in relation to buses?
