Take out stands. You are simply not supplying your opposing team proper facilities at gametime. Do you know how much charter buses cost? If you use them every game, I guarantee you are overspending by 10-15 K a year.

how many buses does Highlands (Ft Thomas Independent) have? I'd bet that sometimes there are enough buses to cover all activities (vollyball, band, soccer, football). It is probably cheaper to rent buses occasionally than to own and maintain additional buses!

I believe that the Ft Thomas Independent School System own one (1) smaller bus. Renting transportation, regardless of whom it is rented from, is part of the overhead incurred by the sports programs. These would typically be considered an operating expense that is year to year. The field, facilities, stands, etc....are major capital issues and would be funded by numerous different revenue streams. I always find it interesting that those not familiar with the HHS program want to point to charter buses without knowing how the whole process works. As far as sideline space goes, let's all go back to our physics lessons: An immovable object tends to stay....well, immovable, unless a greater force can be applied to set it in motion...

 

As always, with HHS being an "independent" school system, we are looking for that "greater force" to move those stands back and provide that multi-tier parking garage..... any takers ? :banana:

...and if we eliminate charter buses, we should be able to get those improved facilities in roughly 30 - 40 years with that influx of cash flow....remember, this system is not funded the way similar state schools are.

It would cost very little compared to what you are thinking to remove stands in the front to have room for the opposition during the game. It is simply not a priority.

I won't act like people treat the opposing team like crap from the Fort as Rob put it. However, it is tough to argue that you have problems with funds when you are taking charter buses to local games. I have a feeling that sideline issue could be fixed if it was deemed necessary.

Next time you're in those stands look over them. The stands are sitting on top of piers on the side of a cliff. You would have to have a serious crane to pick up those stands and that crane would demolish the field so you're looking at piering the new site, new field, crane, and all of the workers. That's a bill that even the elite of Ft. Thomas can't pick up. 100years of bussing would'nt cover moving those stands. So, you are all correct, it's not a priority. It's only a dream.

I'd chalk the stands issue up as something that opposing teams have to deal with when they come to DCM to play. Kind of like us having to deal with music blaring when our offense is on the field at away games. There is adversity everywhere in life; learn to overcome and succeed. Personally, I think the music playing at Ryle last week was more annoying to the fans than it was for the players. In no way did it decide the outcome of the game.

 

As far as using charter buses, there is no other option unless you want to kick in some money for Ft. Thomas to buy buses. Or maybe little Johnny can get a ride with Timmy's mom to the game. She has a minivan so she should be able to fit at least 5 players!

The issue could be easily solved by Dale and everybody knows how to do it but it will be a cold day in, before it ever happens.

Your opinion. Larger schools cant even comply with KHSAA rules due to a lack of space on the sidelines. I am sure that someday the liability issue will be recognized.

Yeah! Winning 3 state championships in a row and the winningest program in Kentucky, Highlands should definately change what they are doing, maybe they should use different busses as well...................... NOT!

 

Thats what a team does when they havent had a winning record in 3 years does.

Correction to my post above. I left out the word "not" which changes what it said completely.

 

Fans should not be able to go in the visitor bench area at Highlands. That could be solved by putting an elevated walkway from one side to another over top of the present steps. That way they would be separated from the visitor bench.
