If the school they wish to attend accepts tuition students and they pay said tuition. None of the Boone county schools accept tuition students so it is very different for a kid living in Union or anywhere in Boone county for that matter.

How is this any different than what Highlands has been doing for years. They have their own teams with interaction from the high school coaches. They have been the model for success for years.

 

Not sure how much interaction takes place with the high school coaches other than the football camp offered for a few days in the summer which is open to anyone. I believe the high school coaches might be a little bit busy during the season.

I don't know. I'm very unfamiliar with the process in NKY. You guys have provided great information on these issues. I've gotten quite a few private messages from Louisville school supporters.

So in Jefferson County it is illegal for a coach affiliated with Trinity to interact with or coach children in a 7th and 8th grade program?

Not the case at HHS, the coaches don't select or coach the teams.

There is no such rule in Boone County. You have to go to the high school in the area you live in anyway, unless you pay tuition to go out of county.

Of course, the opposite end to this is that only students who live in your area can go to your school. No open enrollment and no tuition students.

I think Jefferson County and Boone County are very different school systems. Boone County is totally closed. If a student lives in Ryle's district, they have to go to Ryle with very rare exceptions. Same is true for Boone, Conner and Cooper. Whatever high school district you live in, that is where you go to high school. In Jefferson County, I believe the school system is much more open and where you live doesn't preclude you from going to a Jefferson County school on the other side of town.

 

What Ryle did was start a middle school football team from students in their district. There is a non school pee wee football league in Boone County that has its own rules and no connection to the schools. Ryle's team did not compete in that league. They competed in the middle school football league.

The Union Raiders were not picked by the High School coaches. I don't even believe there was a 'pick' or a selection process, a group of parents got together and put a 'select' team together. The team was not affiliated with the BCPWFL in any way. They did compete in the NKY Middle School football league as a 'first year team' and were not a full fledged member (meaning they just played the teams, etc.). I believe they are going to be a full fledge member this year. The team is made up of kids that attend Gray Middle School and a couple from other middle schools who will feed into Ryle High School. The team was organized as an AAU team and played teams from Lexington, Dayton OH, Middletown, etc..

Believe me, having posted on this board for for many years, I am cognizant that there is a difference re open enrollment. Until today, I was unaware that it was permissible in Boone County for a high school coach to coach a non-enrolled student athlete.

 

The Catholic grade schools have had a league for 60 years (CSAA). The public middle schools have just instituted school based football teams. Until then, and still today, the optimist league is where the public school children played.
