Paducah Tilghman 31 Louisville Holy Cross 7

Tilghman gives Holy Cross their best preview of what Mayfield will look like. Smart scheduling by HC

PT fought through a rash of penalties to win rather handily. Add Forrest to the equation and the Tornado likely wins this contest by another TD or 2. The Cross has just gotten a good preview of what they are up against if they can make it past Crittenden County to play Mayfield in a few weeks, but with an even better quarterback guiding the Cardinals. This didn't help my opinion of elevating Holy Cross to big time contenders in the 1A race for the Championship.

About what I expected. PTs a really good team that I feel will repeat as 3a champions. LHC is a solid team, but, they lack the speed and PTs got excellent size in the trenches to matchup with big teams...

I don't think this loss diminishes LHC's standing in 1A or it's chances to win a title.

They'll likely move down a spot or 2, but, that's about it. I don't think it diminishes there chances either, but, then again, I didn't give them a very good chance to begin with.

Holy Cross is still one of the favorites in Class A . They flat out got beat on saturday . They could not contain #1 and he beat them single handedly . What would have happened if they had Forest ?!?! Dang ! They won't see Tilghman type os speed the rest of the year and yes this means Mayfield too . Holy Cross had 2 starters out on defense and then lose their leading rusher and their leading receiver late in the 1st half . They had an offensive linemean that got hurt early in first quarter but continued to play (probable broken wrist) . No excuses though . They qould have probably gotten beat anyway . but , remember , Holy Cross dropped a wide open TD pass in 2nd and then got the ball back and moved to the 7 and missed a chip shot field goal . Tilghman was on their heels at that point . In 3rd after giving up a field goal and trailing 17-7 , Holy Cross had Tilghman pinned at the 4 and had 3rd and 17 and they threw a basic out to #1 that went for a 96 yard TD and after that it was over . Holy Cross will be fine and Tilghman should win 3A if they can ahndle Central .

The better team won but the final was a little misleading . A pretty clean game all around and I think it was #7 on Tilghman laid , from what I have seen so far , the hit of the year on a Holy Cross defender on a punt return : Absolutely destroyed him and perfectly clean !

Paducah Head Coach Randy Wyatt seems to see it alot differently, here is what he had to say to a reporter after the game

One of the sidelights to the game is the prospect of a postseason matchup between Holy Cross and unbeaten, top-ranked Mayfield. Holy Cross will likely host Crittenden County in the second round of the playoffs, and could play at home against the Cardinals in the regional final.

Tilghman fell to Mayfield 23-20 in overtime in early September, and handled the Cougars without two-way star Josh Forrest, who was ejected in last week’s win over McLean County, and with receiver-safety J.D. Harmon still slowed by a nagging ankle injury.

Asked by a Louisville writer how Holy Cross matched up with Mayfield, Wyatt’s answer was succinct.

“They don’t,” Wyatt said, shaking his head. “Mayfield will be fine. They’ll do the same thing to them that we did.”

That's about as an informed of an opinion as could be asked for, I just know that scores between common opponents don't always tell the tale. It can be dangerous to assume such things.

The score does not always tell the game. There are too many factors that go into play. PT was the better team that day and won. I will tell you this, if anyone from LHC appears to be posting on BGP past the next game, I promise you it is not the coaches or any player thats "actively" on the roster!

What I take away from the game is the speed issues HC had with PT. This also is likely going to be a problem should Mayfield and HC play. I think that the likely HC-Crittenden County matchup will be rather interesting and will occur before any meeting with Mayfield. Crittenden and HC seem to be mirror images of each other and I think this game which is almost a lock to happen will be a war in the trenches

I'm not so sure LHC can beat Crittenden County.

LHC does not play Crittenden County next so I could care less! The speed issues LHC had were with one guy on big plays.
