Bama's BCS hurt

Featured Replies

The Gators were terrible, USC got discovered by the Cats, Gators at home losing to the Bulldogs, first win since 1965 at the Swamp? Hogs, well nevermind. Ole Miss played well but has lost some games too. Bama's big wins are now nothing and the team that beat them got beat by...well, could the Cats beat Bama?

I saw one guy who had us #10 in the BCS, we have no one to blame but ourselves. We need a playoff.

A 1 loss SEC champion will likely play in the BCS National Title game again. If Alabama wins out, they'll be fine.

It ALMOST always works itself out...I wouldn't worry about it. Every year people want to jump off the cliff about the BCS and how bad it is, but it usually ends up right at the end of the season.

Sooners play Mizzou and Auburn plays LSU, so we can move two spots if we get by the Vols.

Not worried about LSU or Auburn being in front of the Tide now because they play them later in the year. I am more worried about TCU, Utah, and Boise because of the cupcakes in front of them. I think Oregon, Oklahoma and Michigan State will lose.

Where do you see Oregon losing KY T?

Oregon St always plays a tough game. Washington also could show out. You never really know.

IF Bama gets left out it is there own fault. They're in the SEC so that helps, but they could have taken care of it themselves by winning every game. With the talent and coaching they have I don't think that is too much to ask.

:thumb: THANK YOU FCT!!! For all the bashing that happens to the BCS, by the end of the year the system almost always works out. That is why there is no playoff IMO. Thank goodness they wait till now to put the BCS standings out. Having to hear another month of rants against the BCS standings in September would drive me crazy. Don't get uptight about the standings now. Just look at the upsets that happened this past weekend and how that changed things. Let the season play out and by the end of the year, the BCS will do its job. I would like to see a 4 or 8 team playoff but if the BCS keeps working as it has, it makes setting a playoff system up more difficult. We will hear two months of rants about a playoff system but when we get to mid December, almost everyone will agree that the BCS championship game has the right teams in it.

But...it doesn't. There was the Texas/Oklahoma two years ago. Georgia was probably the best team in the country at the time they played Hawaii in their last BCS game. LSU won the title with 2 losses, while splitting their title before that. A one loss Miami team was left out of the National Championship game, even though they had beaten eventual champ Florida State earlier in the year. Boise St. and TCU can compete w/ anyone w/ a month to prepare for one game, but what would they do the next week in the national semis? Also, the BCS kills one loss teams who lose in November, but say it is ok to lose one game in September???

Ok, let's go year-by-year:

98-99: How do we know that a 10-1 Wisconsin isn't as good as a 12-0 UT?

99-00: Do you believe that an 11-0 VT in the Big East is as good as an 11-1 Nebraska out of the Big 12?

00-01: Miami goes 10-1 and beats FSU during the regular season, only to watch FSU play for the title.

01-02: Miami -Nebraska probably could have been a no-brainer

02-03: Is a 12-1 Georgia team not as good as a 13-0 OSU team???

03-04: Even the AP didn't believe that LSU-Oklahoma was a legit National Championship game.

04-05: USC v. Oklahoma??? Auburn was 12-0 in the SEC. 3 12-0 teams...yeah, no need for a playoff.

05-06: TX-USC was a no brainer

06-07: Florida v. OSU was a no brainer

07-08: LSU w/ 2 losses was not better than a 2 loss UGA team, yet the BCS has them playing OSU for the title. Every team in the BCS had 1 or 2 losses....no need for a playoff to let it play itself out.

08-09: Florida won out w/ the exception of the Ole Miss hiccup. The issue here is that Texas beat Oklahoma, lost to TT on a last second TD, and didn't get a chance to play for the title.

09-10: Alabama-Texas no brainer.

There you have 4 no-brainers, and 8 seasons where there is some major doubt on who was best. I don't know what your definition of "usually" is, but the above can't be it.

Good info, but all I've ever needed to see was Auburn going 12-0 in the SEC and not being given the opportunity to play for the national championship.

I vividly remember a debate that took place during the 04-05 season in which Auburn went undefeated. It was between Kirk Herbstreit & Jay Bilas--about whether football or basketball was better at the college level. Herbstreit (who I really like) made the same old argument about how "every game counts" in football, whereas the regular season in basketball isn't nearly as important. In other words, every week is the playoffs in football.

Bilas's response was classic & totally silenced Herbie--"Tell that to Auburn."

I said elsewhere--it's ridiculous in any sport where a team can do undefeated and not be given an opportunity to play for a national championship.

I'm not saying it is perfect, but it isn't as bad as you all make it seem. And your info is really good, but your "no brainers" and your "arguments" are nothing more than your opinion. If they go to a playoff and put the BCS conference champs in, are we not going to argue that the Big East isn't better than the MWC and shouldn't be in? What if the ACC and Big East play each other in the first round and you have Louisville and VTech play and they get the winner of Bama and Nebraska...then we argue about "well VTech got to play the Big East champ...it is never going to be perfect. And, your infor up there once said the BCS punishes teams that lose late and once said LSU shouldn't have been in with 2 losses. 1 of their losses was very late.

I think they lose vs. Arizona but it could happen during any of these:

@ USC

vs. Washington

vs. Arizona

@ Oregon State
